“Wipeout” and “Downfall” With Fake Prizes Tonight

So as you can tell this is quite possibly the slowest news week I’ve seen in quite some time.  This seems as good of a time as any to remind people that ABC’s game night is tonight at 8:00PM ET.  First is Wipeout.  It’s a special couples edition where two people will be playing together on the course.  Not that kind of playing together.  It’ll apparently be like the really fun Blind Date edition they did a few weeks back.

After that is Downfall at 9:00PM ET.  The show’s been very fun and I’m hoping ratings can increase or stay remotely steady for a slight prospect of another summer run, but who knows.  On tonight’s episode both Chris Molles and Yolanda Allen play a fast paced trivia game against the clock along with host Chris Jericho, all while trying to avoid losing the game and dropping off the edge of a 10 story building.  The show’s been fun and hopefully more will tune in so we can see it more.

And again, just to stop the complaints: Downfall uses fake prizes and ABC/Fremantle Media is not murdering people.  I don’t know how much more clear the show can make it.

Alex, about 10% of the people in the US still think that Elvis is alive, and professional wrestling is real. Don’t worry about it. All I know is that Downfall may just be one of the most good-natured hours on television. Hell, even the LOSERS are having a hell of a good time…and you don’t see THAT on TV often!

Today’s Wipeout Zone was hilariously pathetic.

And as for Downfall, it was good as usual, but Yolanda was… *slightly* annoying. Woman.

I loved Yo-Yo. It was obvious that the pressure was getting to her, though. After the belt stopped, she was rattling off answers like it was nothing. I’m just enjoying it while I still can, because I saw on TVByTheNumbers that its ratings fell in the second half hour AGAIN, from 1.4 to 1.1, and I don’t think we’ll be seeing a second season anytime soon.

I hope it is not an omen….last night’s show STILL has not been posted on abc.com, hulu.com, or clandesinely on youtube.

According to That Other “Pedia, the ratings for “Downfall” have continued to drop almost as fast as a losing contestant on the show. Apparently, it has surrendered up a third of the audience that tuned in for the premiere. ABC can’t be optimistic for much longer.

At least we won’t have to worry about it much longer. Only six episodes were ordered, and once those six have run, ABC will go over to “Trust Me–I’m A Game Show Host” or “Six Minds” or a test pattern.

The show had a decent game imbedded in all that jiggery-pokery. IF it provided anything, it was the emergence of Chris Jericho, who is something of a find. In the right setting, he has a future as a game show host.

If I were a contestant on that show, my “personal posession” would be a stack of 78 RPM records–which should make a satisfying crash when and if they go over the side. And if I were to “go down”, I’d hope I’d have the presence of mind to let out with a hearty “Ya Ha Ha Hooie!”
