Can you believe the syndicated edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire is having its thousanth episode of the series? It’s crazy. The show is celebrating by giving home viewers a chance to win money and, for the first time, tweaking the gameplay for just one week. From November 5th through November 9th, twenty people each day will be getting $1,000. Also, for that week only, they will remove the first five questions. This means contestants win a thousand automatically and are ten away from a million with all lifelines intact. Who Wants to be a Millionaire starts a new season on September 10th. Check your local listings. Edit: Fixed minor mistake in grammar.

Not to sound like a complete a-hole, but it’s 1,000th episode of the SERIES. I would be VERY impressed if Millionaire got out 1,000 episodes in a season.
G., the semi-a-hole.

Hah, good spot.
As a temporary thing, this is absolutely fine, especially as the music, the graphics and the rest of the prize tree is all remaining the same. *curses at our version for doing none of this*

If this is favorably received don’t be surprisd if they change the money tree and start with $1000 questions going forward.

Since the syndie version is only a half hour I like it. It gives them a chance to get more people into the hot seat. actually, now that I think about it. I remmeber one site advertising when this version was first be considered years ago. that they were going to do this, have contestants on a time limit and have fastest finger with 8 contestants. I guess things change in development meetings.

My kids complain about how dumb the first five questions are, but in most instances, only a few minutes goes by. And once in a while we get a treat. It’s a real hoot to see some smarty pants blurt out the wrong answer to a $1000 question and then sit there like a deer staring into headlights. They are very entertaining road kill.
