“Who Wants to be a Millionaire” Sketch on “Saturday Night Live”

Anyone watch Saturday Night Live last night?  No, I didn’t either because I enjoy actual comedy (e.g. Craig Ferguson live in Greesburg, PA), but last night they had a sketch which will amuse many of us.  As many are aware Steve Harvey was recently the guest host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  SNL did a sketch about Steve’s run on Millionaire, and not only was it (shockingly) funny but it was pretty spot-on.  What do you think?  Matches up well?  His week on Millionaire really proved to me, more than anything, that he is going to be incredibly good in his Family Feud role.  He can do the comedy part well, and if any game show format is set up for Steve, it’s Feud.  And hey if nothing else at least Millionaire is getting some acknowledgement that it actually still exists, which stuns me since many people don’t know that.

I think FF will more match his personality, but I'd still worry…

Spot on sketch, hilarious! Now I'm curious about how Larry the Cable Guy would do on Wheel…

  • I loved the sketch, it was hilarious. . .as for Steve's performance on Millionaire, while it wasn't great it did show that he likes or in fact loves to relate to contestants. Which will be good for hosting FF. Also, he's a comedian and most times comedian hosts are about injecting jokes into the gameplay (i.e. Groucho, Drew, etc.). Now that would work on FF, but not so much a serious show like Millionaire. That is why I think he would be great on FF. And maybe his week on Millionaire would show them that they need to start the clock after Merideth reads the answers.

I agree with you 100% and generally I am fan of Steve Harvey, but his performance on the show was just what you said…staged and loud!

I agree that Steve Harvey was lousy at hosting Millionaire, slowing the game and hogging the spotlight, but I also hold with those who say SNL has gone downhill. It's probably because there are too many writers and sketches are decided by committee. Also, if the show bills itself as being live, and the only really memorable parts are the pretaped segments about embarassing bodily functions, and children's games involving drug-aided knife fights, that speaks volumes about its present state. Also, Gabourey's a fine actress, but she stumbled on her lines in nearly every sketch in which she appeared.

Oh. My bad. When you said most of the 90's, I incorrectly assumed you meant a great majority of the decade.
