“Who Wants to be a Millionaire” Adds Video and Phone Auditions

milllogo3101finalcl.JPGEdit: OK, the big piece of information can finally be revealed.  The phone game that let anyone in America call up and become a millionaire on Who Wants to be a Millionaire is indeed coming back.  Starting July 6th at 7:00PM ET and running for 10 days, from July 6th through July 16th from 7:00PM ET to 3:00AM ET, call 1-800-999-7878 and play the phone game. Good luck

Not living in a location which lets you get to one of the many Who Wants to be a Millionaire auditions easily?  The crew at the ten year old quiz show just added an all-new way to get you closer to the hot seat and $1,000,000.  You can now upload an audition video to the show’s website in lieu of going to an on-site audition.  The process is basically the reverse of the usual auditions.  Make an audition video that does not last longer than two minutes.  The video, beyond the usual basic information, should involve you showing why you’d be a good contestant on the show and what you’d do with $1,000,000.  Again, it’s basically like the audition in front of the producers when you go to a casting location around the country.  Just be careful.  If your video lasts longer than two minutes, your video won’t be looked at.  Your video has to be submitted from June 29th through 3:00AM ET on July 16th.

If the producers like your video you’ll move on to an online test.  The online test looks like it’ll essentially be what the written test is during the actual casting process.  Just answer some multiple choice questions and you’re done.  The online test takes part on July 17th from 7:00PM ET to 10:00PM ET.  If you pass the test you’ll then be put in the contestant pool.  If all goes as planned at that point, you should be getting a call sometime between July 21st and July 23rd.  If you get a call from the show you’re getting a trip for you and a friend to New York City to have a chance at the million.

It looks like this process is for the ABC anniversary edition hosted by Regis Philbin, but if you pass everything you’ll stay in the contestant pool for two years to be selected for future network editions or the syndicated editions.  And there we go.  Any of you going to do this?  If you don’t live near any of the audition places I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t.  It’s a pretty easy process to make it onto the show.  Plus with the video aspect you can go all out and make a very attention-grabbing video.  It’s also a safe way for the show to make sure they get people with a slight bit of personality to get to the show.  Any opinions?  Again, if you’re going to take part in this I’d love to know.  Just click here, or the logo above, to upload your video.

Wow. Adding these two options was an excellent idea by the crew at Millionaire, that's for sure. I'm very pleased. Once again, anyone from anywhere in the country can have a stab at getting in the Hot Seat.

It feels just as exciting as it did 10 years ago. The magic is being recaptured yet again.

  • Steve says:

Great to see the phone game returning! I'll be doing it daily for sure. I also love the idea of auditioning by submitting a video. It's great to see that they're opening it up to anyone to audition, regardless of where they live.

  • Mark says:

lol. It's the same number used for Super Millionaire. Kinda cool.

  • MikeSant318 says:

Will the phone tryouts be the original Millionaire's two-stage process (3 FFQs, a qualifying call, and a 5 FFQ playoff),
or the SuperMillionaire phone game (just 5 FFQs)?

  • Craig says:

As far as the phone contest goes, if you answer all 5 questions correctly, you get to pick a random taping date. At that point, the callbacks will start on July 21.

    I found this tidnit interesting:

"A computer game has been established for persons who have physical disability that prevents them from using a telephone to participate in the Phone Game. Go to http://www.abc.com keyword Millionaire for details."

I wonder how that game works. Has anyone even considered doint it the "alternate" way?

  • BobHagh says:

I like the video aspect of the audition. Hopefully that will stay with daytime "Millionaire" for a while, but good to see the phone game returning! I may just try both!!

  • Chad says:

Wow. So not only have the opened up autitioning to anyone in America, but they're bringing it into the 21st century… well, bringing it MORE into the 21st century with Internet applications. I like it!

  • Wayne says:

I thought about using that option, but then if you ever read the full rules for the show, you pretty much have to be straight with the producers or you could be disqualified. So if you claim to be deaf and need the "disability" version, you better be deaf.

  • Wayne says:

    Yeah, I noticed that too.

Also on the Embassy Row recycling beat–Donnymid's version of Pyramid had the website "pyramidgameshow.com".

I remembered that about a year after the cancellation of that version, I tried the website and it didn't work.

Now remember that version was by Sony, and the upcoming version is by Embassy Row–now owned by Sony.

The pyramidgameshow.com website now currently redirects you to Sony's site–yeah, they'll be using that one again soon…

  • Andy says:

You know, i have a Millionaire revival idea. Still in the works, but seems really cool.

Submitting a video is great – but what if you goof and send the video realizing that you forgot to put in your birth date
in the "Brief Bio." It would be better for the entrant if he or she would be prevented from submitting the video
until the originally omitted data was entered. Some people are not aware of an omission until it's too late.
They should be given a chance to correct an entry rather than be disqualified. It is hard work to come up with a
qualifying video only to be disqualified because of a goof in a bio.

  • Mike says:

This might've happened to me. I got an email saying that I was selected to take the online test but I didn't enter my birthdate in the bio. I don't know what happened because I read every single other thing it told me to do. In the bio box I entered an actual bio. Sigh. So when I log in to try to take the test on Friday I'm sure it won't let me.

  • Mikey B. says:

This happened to me. I submitted a video but put an actual "brief bio" in the brief bio section. I received an email saying my video had been selected and I get to take the online test but I'm 90% sure the system won't let me take the test because I screwed up my brief bio. But then on the website it says if you don't enter the information correctly your video won't even be looked at in the first place. Obviously my video was looked at and approved so…I'm a little confused.

  • Mike says:

Yep–I didn't have the credentials to log on to the online test–I'm SO mad at myself. :-(

  • BJJ says:

Has anyone who took the online test gotten any sort of notification about whether or not they're in the pool? It would be nice to have that information so as to know whether or not to keep auditioning. No need to if you're in the pool!
