Weekend Replay: The Cube

We had a lot of fans of the new UK game show The Cube, which is pretty popular across the pond currently.  Here’s one game of the most recent episode.  It’s an exciting one, so definitely take a look at the full game if you can.  I swear if some US network or production company doesn’t import this they are crazy.  It’s practically made to be imported here, it seems.

Brilliant episode, brilliant show, and brilliant twist at the end. This is easily my favorite game show in a very long time.

For those of you who hate "squash-o-vision" (I do), YouTube user ant1368 is posting a non-squashed widescreen version. Either way, this episode is a cracker.

  • Curtis says:

Please let this show come to America… and preferably as is. None of the family ranting that happens on DoND.

  • Josh Halbur says:

The ONE show that could only be helped by the over-dramatization from FOX…

  • Steve says:

I agree 100%. I've made it a point to watch all fice episodes so far, and I plan to continue doing so. Thank you Alex for introducing us to this show, and I really hope it's picked up for the USA.

    Steve:

Where's the second one? I've seen links for all the others, but not that episode.

  • Chris says:

I havent seen episode 2 either… To bring it to America, possibly do an 8 game set (instead of 7) Leaving the chain as it is right now, but to bring it in line with other USA gameshows, make game 8 be $1,000,000.

As a side for this show, he lost 3 lives in game 1 on the walking game, and had to use his simplify there (and still almost didnt make it). Does anyone know if this is their normal plan to bring back a game from earlier, or was it just due to his failure big time in it originally?

  • Kevin M. says:

This game has got to have the best production value of any game show ever.

  • Matt says:

Oddly, the guy at UkGameShows hates it

  • David B says:

Iain said that he finds the special effects too much, but in a subsequent column he gives it more approval.

If you don't mind downloading torrents, you can get the second episode (and all the others as well) at http://thebox.bz

Like I said, this is like the stunt round from Beat The Clock, only for a lot more Money…….here is what I would do the money structure for the US version……

    $ 5,000 –> $ 10,000 –> $ 25,000 –> $ 50,000 –> $ 100,000 –> $ 250,000 –> $ 1,000,000

Maybe add a second SIMPLICITY at $ 100,000, but that's about it.

  • David B says:

There is a reason, I think, for the first two rungs to be much lower than the third. If a contestant has a nightmare start, it virtually guarantees that they'll go for Game 3 because £2000 isn't worth their while coming. I was confused at the pacing of the ladder when it was first announced, but on the show it has made sense.

  • Tony DuMont says:

I tried that, but if you make one mistake in logging in, you get automatically disqualified from the site.

  • asdf says:

What do you mean as is, the money ladder is horrible and for the record DoND was perfect as it was. The money ladder should be:
    7:$500,000
    6:$250,000
    5:$100,000
    4:$50,000
    3:$25,000
    2:$10,000
    1:$5,000

  • asdf says:

NO MILLION DOLLARS. To many of those today. So many I shudder at the thought of it. We are few years away from million dollar Beat the Clock.

  • Chris says:

You may "shudder", but the real fact is absent of a million prize, most people won't even give a show a second thought…

Figure it this way, the top prize in British Cube is the same top prize of British Deal or no Deal.

  • Chris says:

you are correct david, hence why my chain earlier gives bigger push to go for the final 1m game (and 8 games instead of 7, more to make your lives survive)
