Weekend Replay: “Millionaire Hot Seat”

I may have not been the biggest fan of the Australian version of Millionaire called Hot Seat, but it’s grown on me a bit.  Plus it’s really hard to argue that it doesn’t work.  It’s regularly right beside if not beating Deal or No Deal down under each night so apparently it’s enjoyable.  But the fact still remains that the show makes it so the first 14 questions of the game matter to nothing.  All that matters is that final 15th question worth whatever prize money is left.  Yeah, it can lead to some rather crappy endings for little money.  On occasion it can lead to someone playing for a monster prize of $250,000 or $1,000,000, though, and that’s always exciting.  Here’s a clip of a contestant going for the quarter of a million dollar prize from a recent episode.

I can't lie, I STILL hate the show, just because of its ridiculous rules. Some of the dollar amounts are unwinnable, for one, and it makes the show more about luck than knowing the answers, unless one person can pull off knowing all 15 without a lifeline, and there aren't too many John Carpenters in this world.

I'm about to cough up an idea. Don't ridicule me, I know it is stupid, it is just smarter than Hot Seat so it could have been a better alternative for Australia. Force one contestant to face all 15 questions, and a wrong answer doesn't actually knock them out of the show, it just means they drop down one level from where they are (which would result in the top 2 money amounts no longer being posisble) or give them the option to skip a question, which would not drop them down but since there are only 15 questions they could no longer win the top amount, but could still win the 2nd top amount left. This would make a LITTLE more sense and still require all 15 questions to be seen, which seems like it is the main point of this show.
