Weekend Replay: Big Winner on Aussie “Deal or No Deal”
The Australian version of Deal or No Deal has been on the air for seven years daily now and they’ve only had one $200,000 grand prize civilian winner. That was far back in 2004. They had a celebrity win $200,000 in 2007, but it’s more exciting to see a regular player win. Following the interesting pattern of a winner every three years, a $200,000 grand prize winner was crowned this past week. It’s the first woman in Australia to win it also. Take a look below. Also, is it just me or is that final offer unbelievably weak? They were practically begging for someone to win it. It’s like they were sitting in the booth and saying, “We can’t lose to Millionaire: Hot Seat anymore, just get a winner.”

My God, those were terrible offers! The next to last one was bad as well.
This version is waaaaay crazy. If I didn't understand English I'd think this is straight out of Japan. And wtf was up with the Monkey? And the $500 guess thing?
On a "normal" day, we would have seen a final offer of around $140,000. If Deal wanted to really beat out Millionaire: Hot Seat very badly this time, they should have brought out Cases I and II for Double or Nothing! Now that would've been interesting to see…
Yes, that offer was screaming "TURN ME DOWN!!!!". Glad she did.
To be honest, I'm not sure what offer they could make to be interesting. No-one is going to turn down a midway offer with a $100k guarantee and offering above the mean would kill the suspense in the situation. I think it just has to be accepted that an end final two like that is so very rare you might as well just let it play out.
Each contestant that isn't playing that game guesses what amount is in their case, if they get it right they win cash. It's on a bunch of other international variants too.

For example, on the original Dutch version the bounty is $1,000 to $26,000, depending on how many cases are left in play.

I agree…that last offer basically said "you've got the big one…I give up". The American banker would have offered around $150,000. At least, that way, the contestant would've wondered whether she had it or not. But with $115,000 as the final offer, the host was right…you might as well go for it since you only stand to lose $15,000…compared to $100,000, it's a no-brainer.
With that said…first female winner…VERY cool! Congratulations to her!
Well, remember Laura Pearce on DOND UK? She was offered £45,000 on a final two of £3,000 and £250,000. That was probably screaming "turn me down" even louder…
Good lord, she was just as hysterical winning $200,000 on DOND as Marisa was on the Aussie TPIR when she won the Mega Showcase!
I still can't believe that Hot Seat, with its craptacular cheapie format is beating the show that's killed Price, Wheel, and the non-stupid version of Millionaire the past decade. It's just mind-boggling to me.
"Hot Seat" isn't that bad of a show, but it does suck that "Deal" is being beaten. I would LOVE for our version to be more like this. More colorful (especially since most shows aren't colorful anymore besides "Price"), more fun, and more light-hearted. The faux drama on American "Deal" got really old really fast. A fun version for the daily version would've been much better..with the guesses and the car too.
The above is correct. Regarding the monkey bit, the 50-cent case (Aussie DoND's lowest amount) features a cartoonish-looking monkey character named Banoodles. Take a look at the video again, and you'll see a monkey inside the 50-cent case when it is opened.
I like the Australian version of Deal. I definitely agree with Kevin that DoND US got a little irritating with the over dramatization of the show. I wish they would return to a Wheel/Deal hour; Wheel was a classic game show in Australia much like it is here, it's quite sad that both Seven and Nine totally destroyed the show.
It’s great that Deal is surviving overseas. Too bad we can’t get it back on in the USA. Another show that is still going strong worldwide that should be brought back is Weakest Link. There is no host quite like Anne Robinson.
