Video: Most Expensive’s Makeover
On Friday’s couples episode of The Price is Right, we saw two pricing game updates for the first time: the $10,000 sign for Half Off has a new background to match the game, and a brand new set for Most Expensive. I actually seem to like this set change, as it feels more modern, like the show itself. What do you think?
(scroll to 5:20 for Most Expensive)

I thought they were pretty good, The sign for 1/2 Off was pretty good, but if they added something to it like the way the $16,000 shines on It's In The Bag, hust to make the $10,000 sign more fancy. The new Most Expensive makeover was really good. For some reason I thought of the British version. Over all really good.
Sadly, I must agree. You must remember we are talking about a segment of fandom that used to get up in arms if the color of the Turntable carpet changed.
Not to paint with broad strokes or anything, but in my experience Price fans tend to be very conservative (in the dictionary sense) when it comes to changes in their favorite game show… that is to say, the less change the better. It's that way throughout most game show fandom, of course, but rarely as pronounced as what we see here, and I suspect it's a result of the show being fixed in amber for so many years under the Bob Barker-Roger Dobkowitz regime. Let's face it, the show had barely changed a thing (aside from the usual Pricing Game turnover and a few different color schemes on the set) since the mid-'80s by the time Bob retired; now, over two and a half seasons into the Drew Carey era, Price is almost an entirely different show visually, and I'm all for it. I think it's great, truly.
And this comes from a lifelong Price fan, born in 1974 and who has literally grown up with the show and seen it evolve. So I guess not all of the "diehards" are so married to the old look and feel of the show, huh? ;^)
I kinda like it. It is a lot more modern, not to mention the game itself has a logo now!
It's ugly, and was not needed. Focus on the horrible price setups and the terrible hosting by Drew and not unnecessary set changes.

lol anyways…
The valentine's day episode was great. Had pretty easy setups (GASP!), and Drew was great during the whole show (DOUBLE GASP!!!).
Most expensive's new set looks great and much better than the old set IMO and is definitely more modern. I aslo like how they incorporated the PIR Dollar sign into it's logo.

I like the new look for most expensive. It does make it look more modern and overall, it just looks awesome.
Horrible setups? They had a perfect show … except for a DOB on the Showcases, but they had a whole bunch of cars in them so go figure.
I like the new set…but, I took one look at it and immediately thought "Big Numbers" from High Rollers. I know it's probably just me, but I'm just sayin'.

Ah yes, a typical repsonse from one of the "Price Purists" that are usually the target of ridicule on this site. Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Sigh. When will you people learn?
You know the old expression, "A change'll do you good?" Well, that's what I think of what happened here. I think it's a very nice update to a game that's been played forever. It looks awesome. I used to call this game "The 1 2 3 Game" because I didn't even know it was called "Most Expensive." I only learned it was called that when Drew became the host. The fact that they've added a logo with the name to the set is a very nice, much-needed touch. Kudos to the Price art crew / set designers for this very nice update to an old favorite.

They'll probably never learn, I'm afraid.

Yeah…Horrible setups. Seen That's Too Much lately? It's been quite a while since the right price was anything but 2nd or 9th. Seen how bad the setups are in Lucky Seven? Loads of 1's and 9's and 8's. A playing of Pocket Change without any 5's or 0's?
I mean, the perfect show on the Valentine's Day show was set up for that. I mean, come on…Tell me Side By Side wasn't set up for an easy win…
But, I am definitely part of the minority, even over at Golden-Road, who hate the new setup. They just NEEDED to fill in dead space, didn't they? They tried with the old set, but it just didn't work. I don't feel like ANY dead space needed to be filled. I'm of the group that thinks that if it worked for years, why change it? Progress is one thing, but if there's no need for it, why bother? It's more important to work on the intrinsic problems with the show. The crappy prize setups, the crappy price setups, the inconsistent hosting job by Drew…Not the unnecesary changing of set.
to Mark D: You used to call "Most Expensive" the 1-2-3 game? I used the name 1-2-3 game to describe the mini game on Supermarket Sweep where the contestants had to guess the most expensive, least expensive, which product sells for over $3 etc…, and if all 3 were right all 3 teams got 30 extra seconds.
When will we see a revival of Supermarket Sweep with Rossi Morrealle as host?
You cannot be serious. Rossi Moreale was a terrible host on Craptation. But yeah, that's what I used to call Most Expensive until Drew Carey re-educated me. Not sure if a Supermarket Sweep revival would work in today's market (no pun intended), so don't count on it. And as I recall, this was a post about Most Expensive's new look, not about reviving Supermarket Sweep. Just trying to keep it on topic, that's all.

Ya know, I'm half and half here. I liked Most Expensive's old set overall. When it was changed to the last set from the previous ones, it was just grand. With that said, it was VERY '80s and, in all reality, needed to be changed and this new set is VERY modern! The numbers look a little odd, but it's very…refreshing. That's the word and, like Nick said in the post, "TPIR" is more refreshing than anything now, successfully keeping the show classic while making changes that a nice and cute and don't change much.
I must admit. I think don't like the background change for Half Off. I think it's more of a mess than better. I would've liked just a black background…same with the $16,000 on It's In the Bag. It just brings out the amount more. Of course, $10,000 isn't THAT big of a deal on shows now. But yeah.

Overall, it's just nice to see a show actually make its show relevant and actually remotely consider changes! That's refreshing in itself. And, as someone said before, "The Price is Right" feels far more like a sexy cougar (today) than an old grandma (the Barker-era). This is some good stuff we're seeing…
Maybe Mike Richards should run GSN….
