Video: Most Expensive’s Makeover

On Friday’s couples episode of The Price is Right, we saw two pricing game updates for the first time: the $10,000 sign for Half Off has a new background to match the game, and a brand new set for Most Expensive.  I actually seem to like this set change, as it feels more modern, like the show itself.  What do you think?

(scroll to 5:20 for Most Expensive)

Overall, it's just nice to see a show actually make its show relevant and actually remotely consider changes! That's refreshing in itself. And, as someone said before, "The Price is Right" feels far more like a sexy cougar (today) than an old grandma (the Barker-era). This is some good stuff we're seeing…

Maybe Mike Richards should run GSN….

I think Most Expensive needed a change. This, however, was not a good change. It looks like 25,000 Pyramid and Password Plus had a baby, which they then murdered.

Finally! Someone agrees with me…kinda. I don't think they needed a change, but I agree that the set looks horrible.

While I disagree completely, that was single-handedly the best analogy I've ever heard in my life. Too funny!

This is the fourth set in 38 years for Most Expensive. But the game play has remained the same, so what's the big deal? I don't have a problem with an occasional set update. Only a very few games are now being played on their original set piece…and nearly all of them have had at least a fresh coat of paint over the years. Parts go bad, paint chips…stuff happens!

I'd love to see a few of the others get a tweak, too. The Grand Game especially needs an update. That sliding $10,000 display is just nasty lookin'!

The set needed an upgrade. With Drew Carey (who I think is doing fine), they want the show to seem fresh again and young. When Bob Barker hosted, the show had become a museum. Each game preserved exactly the same so the 60+ crowd woudn't write their angry letters.

The new graphics and sets look fresh and bright, but keep the same aesthetic of the original show. And I think that's absolutely swell.

Those who are complaining should just let Bob Barker rest in peace, and stop trying to resurrect him.

….Bob Barker is dead right? :P

But, people in that target demographic they're so desperately trying to court already watched the show before all these changes. You're not going to get more people in that demographic to watch. They all have other things to do when it's on the air. Frankly, other than the complete upgrade in directing, their attempts have been horrible. I hate what they've done to the show. Some people have tuned out. I, however, still watch because it's still The Price is Right, and there's nothing like it here in the US. I do have the right to complain, though. (I know nobody's telling me I can't.) I will complain about what they did to the show I knew and loved. How they turned it into a show that tries too hard to be hip and modern when that was an unnecessary change.

And Juliaz…that's why god made TiVo. And if the younger demos…you know, the ones they keep calling down to Contestants Row…think it's cool again, they'll record it or watch it on CBS.com. TPIR's older demos are dying. If they don't make a change now and then, then the show will die with them.

Unfortunately, due to WDBJ being a bitch in my area and not coming in, and due to lack of high-speed Internet in my area, I missed this one. I like the Most Expensive set change…aside from the fact that the logo's on the floor, where no one will see it. Oh well. Can't win 'em all! =P

Excuse me for jumping on the bandwagon, but I thought Most Expensive's set was friggn' beautiful. And it's about damn time this game got a logo. And of course, the game is EXACTLY THE SAME! Purists can say whatever they want, but I'm getting more impressed with the new TPiR little by little.

    Definitely see the resemblance.

My tape in my VCR crapped out and I missed this episode.
but I love the Most Expen$ive set upgrade (drop shadows rule)
and did anybody notice the use of the Classic theme at theopening.
