VH1 Premieres “World Series of Pop Culture” on July 9th

It’s about time we had some actual news about World Series of Pop Culture, isn’t it?  The ultimate test of pop culture knowledge, the 2007 and second annual World Series of Pop Culture, presented by VH1, Entertainment Weekly, and Alltel will debut on Monday, July 9th, at 9PM ET.  the show will air Mondays through Fridays at that time for a two week period of time.  Here are some cool details about the new season.

1: All episodes can be viewed after initial airing on VH1′s website.
2: WSoPC II debuted a brand new website, which can be viewed here.
3: The website will also host “TriviaDome”, where users are presented with 25 questions.  Whenever a wrong answer is given, they are eliminated from the game.  The final person surviving wins $2,500 each night.
4: On the final night, the “Ultimate TriviaDome” will be hosted for $10,000

Sixteen teams will face off against each other, including last season’s champions El Chubacabra, for a chance at $250,000 in this single-elimination tournament.  The amazing host from last season who SHOULD have hosted Chain Reaction, Pat Kiernan, will be presiding over the new season.

YAY! The only watchable thing on VH1 today is BACK!!!!!

  • Eric says:

Pat hosting Chain Reaction? Sorry Alex I just don’t see it. And besides Just what he needs another game show on his resume with a bad format.

  • Alex Davis says:

You know what, as I think about it, I think you’re right. If they had a different format that is, I don’t know, decent and not horribly broken, I can just see him hosting it. His dry wit seems like a good fit in my mind.

  • Justin says:

Yay! WSOPC is one of the best trivia shows on television… and Pat does an amazing job at hosting! He should have done the Scripps spelling bee… lol

  • Chris says:

What exactly is wrong with “Chain Reaction”? It’s not the greatest show ever, but it’s pretty fun.

  • Brandon says:

It’s not the worst show ever, but it’s not without its flaws. One of the biggest criticisms is that they go for looks over actual game-playing ability. If they could find some attractive contestants who actually know how to play the game, it would be a lot better. I honestly got sick of the constant passing during the bonus game. Teams passed without even trying to form a sentence, and the sentences they formed were wrong in every sense of the word.

I also have some superficial issues with the show, i.e. the techno theme song, “Millionaire” set, and lack of an actual gameboard, but I’ll save those for another day.

Here’s the biggest problem with CR: Dylan Lane.

Get rid of him and find someone with a pulse and an ability to get excited for teams to win, and the game would be better.

I do agree with the contestants being crappy…I do think they can find better ones…perhaps offer more money ($10,000 to win the bonus game for starters) and you might have some more people who would want to try out.

Brandon, you make good points, but if you look real carefully there actually have been some very good teams that have played over the past two seasons of CR, they do seem few and far between though, don’t they? Also, you must take into account (as far as the bonus game is concerned) that the classic version, and even “Go” had that same problem on many occasions.

I see a lot of the celebrity teams form improper sentences when they struggle to put a question together, but in some instances the contestant gets the jist of what they’re saying and says the correct answer. Same goes for some of the teams on “Go.” The fact is, unless each player is a mindreader, you can’t expect a “perfect” question to be formed every single time.

  • What is the name of the theme song? It slipped my mind and I don’t remember it anymore…
