“Vanna For A Day” Winner Katie Cantrell Appears on “Wheel” March 24th; Trebek and Sajak Win Award

Lots of Wheel of Fortune news for you today.  In February, Wheel launched the “Vanna For a Day” competition where one lucky winner would get the chance to stand in front of the iconic puzzle board in place for regular host Vanna White.  Katie Cantrell, a senior at Savannah College of Art and Design, won.  She beat out more than 1,000 other ladies for the chance.

“This whole experience has been so much fun,” said Katie. “I had never flown first class, or stayed in such a big suite. It’s all so surreal -I’m really on the Wheel of Fortune stage. I can’t wait for everyone to see the dress I picked – it’s gorgeous!”  Katie’s episode will air on Thursday, March 24th.  You can visit the contest’s site for more about Katie and the contest.  Click here for that.

Not only that, but both Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek are being honored with a Lifetime Achievement award at the Daytime Emmys which will be broadcast live on June 19th on CBS. “Who of us has not laughed and been entertained by the unique and ever present game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!?” asked NATAS Chairman, Darryl Cohen.

“Both Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek are household names that are synonymous with these game shows that Americans have enjoyed welcoming into their living rooms for well over twenty-five years. In honoring Pat and Alex, we’re honoring not only two of the great game shows throughout the history of television, but two individuals whose talent and personality have given us an additional reason to tune in and watch. With both of these stars as our honorees, we’re looking forward to an exciting and entertaining show televised live from Las Vegas.”

Nice to see them honored, but I’m sure people would like to see Cullen, Monty Hall., Wink, Eubanks, Rayburn, and a few others honored too. Though at this point, it ain’t likely.

I sertenly think they all could be honored at some point. You just need to give it time.

I met Alex a few years ago at a New York Jeopardy! book signing. I found him to be a bit standoffish. Perhaps it was because he couldn’t spend much time with every person on line, however I can see he likes children because there was a mother & her 3-year old son behind me & he gave the kid a bit more atention. The funny thing was the child was a real Jeopardy! fan at such a young age. I wonder if he still watches now that he is in his teens.

Slightly off topic, however… Pat Sajak is very deserving. He is far more talented than just being a “game show host”. I saw him play Ed Norton (the Art Carney Role) in a live stage performance of “The Honeymooners” about five years ago. He was hilarious. He is a very talented comedic actor. He performed THREE complete episodes of the original Honeymooners episodes live on stage, back to back in one continuous play. The scripts and blocking were verbatim from the television episodes. This was the only time “The Honeymooners” was performed live as a stage play since the television show way back in the 50′s. Special rights were granted for this production. Pat outshone his costar (Joe Moore as Ralph Cramden) a hundred-fold.

    Pat is also an actor?

Very disappointed did not get to see this show because of March Maddess. The game keep us in Abilene Texas to view the showing on 03-24-2011. Our television stations says it has a contracted that they can not re air that showing. Our family was looking forward to viewing that problem and are not happy that is was not aired.

I don’t know about you, but things like that make me HATE HATE HATE sports. Networks value television for the brainless (sports) above all and NEVER have I seen sports preempted for anything. I’m a guy and it makes me sick.

Sorry you didn’t get a chance to watch it.

Yes, Pat is a very talented actor. In addition to his live performance as Ed Norton, he also portrayed Felix Unger (the neat one) in a live stage performance of The Odd Couple, also co-starring his Vietnam Veteran pal Joe Moore. Both productions were staged at the Historic Hawaii Theatre in downtown Honolulu. (Joe Moore has been the top-rated news anchor in Honolulu for 25-plus years).

Just this past year Pat and Joe teamed up once again in “The Boys in Autumn”. Pat portrayed Tom Sawyer as a grown man while Joe Moore portrayed Huck Finn. This play was humorous but much more of a serious drama in overall context.
