Updated GSN Schedules and a Rumor About a New Show

We’ve just updated the GSN schedules through the end of January 2010.  They’ve become just a tiny bit of a mess because of the inclusion of the new hidden camera show Hidden Agenda and Carnie Wilson’s reality show.  Well, inclusion is a bit of a nice way to describe it.  It’s sort of like a five year old shoving a piece into a puzzle that doesn’t fit hard and they finally got it to stay in place a bit so they glued it in before anything bad happened.  If you’re a GSN viewer you’re going to have to read the schedules daily to try to figure out what exactly will be airing since it’s a fiasco.  Again, Hidden Agenda will debut January 14th at 8:30PM ET and the Carnie Wilson thing at 8:00PM ET.  The rerun schedules are confusing, so here they are below.

Carnie Wilson, starting the week of January 11th, will rerun:
*Thursdays at 11:00PM ET
*Fridays at 11:00AM ET, 3:30PM ET, 8:30PM ET
*Saturdays at 12:30PM ET, 5:00PM ET, 10:30PM ET, 2AM
*Sundays at 11:30AM ET and 4:30PM ET

Starting the week of January 18th, Carnie Wilson will also rerun on:
*Tuesdays at 4:00PM ET, 10:30PM ET, 12:00AM
*Wednesdays at 2:00PM ET, 10:00PM ET, 1:00AM ET

Hidden Agenda
, starting the week of January 11th, will rerun:
*Thursdays at 11:30PM ET
*Fridays at 11:30AM ET, 4:30PM ET, 10:00PM ET
*Saturdays at  12:00PM ET, 5:30PM ET, 11:30PM ET, 2:30AM ET
*Sundays at 11:00AM ET, 5:30PM ET

Starting the week of January 18th, Hidden Agenda will also rerun on:
*Mondays at 10:00PM ET
*Tuesdays at 3:00PM ET, 12:30AM ET
*Wednesdays at 2:30PM ET, 10:30PM ET, 1:30AM ET

Wow that’s a ton.  We’ll see what happens.  They are performing severe overkill here and I see this ending very ugly, like Big Saturday Night.

We also got a news tip about something GSN is working on.  A reader emailed us and said GSN was taping something at High Voltage Tattoo in Hollywood last week, but we aren’t sure what for.  It could be for something currently airing.  However, they’re apparently going forward with a show called Instant Recall from the son of Richard Dawson.  It could very well be this.  We aren’t completely sure what Instant Recall is, but we’re hearing that it’s another non-studio based hidden camera game where stuff goes on to someone and after the event is over they have to correctly answer questions about what just happened.  I also found something GSN is working on called GSN Daily, but attempting to look that up as I type.

The sheer volume of the takeover alone is astounding, but what compounds this is the seemingly random-generated irregularity of all the airings. What, did someone knock over the scheduling board and just threw it back together any ol' way? If they wanted to play each show three times a day, why not do so? Like once in the morning, once at late night and once during GSN Live. Play one at 3:30 after Lingo and another at 4:00 to replace a Feud. As it stands, you almost have to stumble upon these shows. Can you imagine how long the promo would have to be to mention all those times? And they are going to promote them…I hope. It's not even like the checkerboard scheduling they had back during the changeover when they had a bunch of once-weekly shows. That made sense. Of course, if you like a show that's losing an airing or two to them, you won't help but notice. It feels like a lose-lose decision. I hope you don't take this as a slight against you, Alex, but I really want to call shenanigans on the lot, because I refuse to believe that anyone could be so catatonically stupid as to take a hatchet to their daily line-up and patch it with gauze and duct tape like this.

Yeah, what's up with that? Certainly sounds like the kind of schedule taulor-made for DVRs.

If Instant Recall is what I think it is, I won't even consider that. Studio 7 tried something similar but with current events. Here, it revolves around what's going on around you.

Guys, why are you praising this new schedule? Do you really want GSN to abandon its roots and be geared more towards Reality TV from now on?

  • Randy says:

GSN is only going to promote the first airing of each show. You won't see promos for other runs except if they're "coming up next." This isn't the first time they've flooded their schedule with airings of a new reality show. They did that with American Dream Derby and others and the results were so bad they quickly pulled many of the repeat runs. Don't be surprised when that happens here.

This has “train wreck” written all over it. Overkilling a show is not a good thing, especially if you want it to suceed. Don’t be surprised if those shows are short lived.
