UK Weekend Replay: All or Nothing on The Cube

Followers of this website might have read my article a fortnight ago where I asked whether The Cube has Become Harder to Win? It wasn’t conclusive as we were only three shows into the latest series but many of the views from posters agreed the show has become harder on the basis the first games were set at a higher difficulty, and the new games introduced were harder. Forcing contestants to waste numerous lives and their Simplify early on.

The clip we have for you is taken from last Sunday’s episode. We have seen the youngest contestant on the show, Isaac being defeated by The Cube. Can the second contestant, Karen win £50,000 by completing Construction. She has two lives and a Trial Run remaining.

After five shows, it is now official the latest series of The Cube has been the poorest performing series so far. After we have seen ten contestants. We have seen the most number of contestants being defeated by The Cube in a series. Five contestants have been defeated, meaning the fourth series has a 50/50 success and failure rate. We have only seen one contestant from ten managing to win £50,000. Meaning the other nine have either won £20,000 or less or been defeated. While the low wins have produced an all time low for the average contestant winnings for a series. The first three series had averages around £24,000 but the current series is averaging at only £11,000. The poor performance from the contestants and the difficulty of the games might have reflected the ratings for the show. Last year it was securing ratings in the high 4/low 5 million but last Sunday secured a rating below 4 million. It it also securing the same rating as The Celebrity Chase on Saturday evenings but The Celebrity Chase is aired an hour earlier compared to The Cube and is not the lead in show to The X Factor.

So to ask ourselves. Has The Cube become harder? Definitely yes.

The host ‘s face on the title pic says it all! What a heartbreak.

It’s pretty safe to say that The Cube’s 4th season has become much harder. Maybe this has to do with all the money given away by previous game show Red or Black. ITV might have told the executive producers of The Cube to create harder games and give away less money, because obviously, ITV essentially went broke after the creation of Red or Black.

And as a result, the ratings for The Cube are taking a hit. Viewers want to see contestants do well and walk away with life-changing amounts of money. The network, on the other hand, does not. You can’t have your cake and eat it too ITV.

Yes, Brits (and Americans) love seeing a winner. But if the first person to beat the Cube does so on a stack of games that most consider way too easy, that will be as frustrating as the rest of this series’ too-tough stacks.

Many things killed Deal or No Deal USA, and one of them was a maniacal desire to finally give away the $1 million to someone, anyone, no matter how badly the game had to be mucked up. Or if you want to mine the shafts of history, there’s the whole discussion about John Carpenter’s million-dollar Nixon question.

“1 lives” reminds me of the old C-64 days. They need to use a gooder English :-)
