UK News Flashes: “The Cube” Returns and Celebrity “Chase”
Two exciting pieces of news for two of England’s best game shows.
*Trick or treat: The Cube is back. The fourth series of the critically acclaimed ITV1 game show will debut on Sunday, October 30th, at a time to be determined. The third series, which saw celebrity Tom Fletcher of the band McFly win £100,000, was last seen in May 2011. No one has been able to beat The Cube for its £250,000 top prize, nor has anyone attempted it. Will this be the season that changes that? Our fingers are crossed. The Cube has been around since August 2009 and we’re always excited to see shows as good as this have a nice, long life. Continued success to it and Objective Productions so we can see some more. It’s going to be hard to top series three, but if anyone can do it it’s them. What was our favorite moment? Check it out.

*The popular ITV1 daytime quiz show The Chase recently taped some celebrity episodes. These episodes will feature some of England’s top entertainment and news personalities competing against one of the four Chasers to win money for charity. Celebrities taking part include Eamonn Holmes, Carol Vorderman, Alex James, John Thomson, Ann Widdecombe, Jenny Frost, Michelle Collins, Austin Healey, and Sara Cox. Others include Sally Lindsay, Barry McGuigan, Shaun Williamson, Nick Hancock, Jenny Éclair, Sue Cleaver, Paul Ross, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Phil Tufnell, Ulrika Jonsson, Jennie Bond, Joe Pasquale, Janet Street-Porter, and Mark Durden Smith.
They will be taking on one of the four Chasers, whether it be Mark “The Beast” Labbett, Anne “The Governess” Hegarty, Shaun “The Barrister” Wallace, or Paul “The Sinnerman” Sinha. If I were them, I’d be most afraid of Mark and Anne. Celebrity The Chase will air Saturday, October 29th, at 5:30PM.

I love The Chase, and just a couple of days ago was one of the best yet which sets it appart from all the other formats. See the video on http://www.bradleywalsh.co.uk showing the Fanny Chmelar question. I’m sure they must put funny questions in on purpose as the show is more entertainment than the other quizes. Imagine Chris Tarrant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire asking the same question with the tension music playing – it just wouldn’t work.
There have been numerous funny questions before but Bradley never lost it compared to the Fanny Chmelar question. You must admire Anne for trying to keep a straight face.
I dunno, Paul’s been pretty good as well… (only one loss to date out of 7 appearances)
The Cube will air in their normal 7pm slot. As with 2010, it will be the lead-in for The X Factor Result. This time The Cube will be the lead-in right up to the grand final in mid December.
The Celebrity Chase will run for six shows. This means 2 Chasers will play twice with the other 2 Chasers playing once. As there will be 24 celebrities, Alex have listed all but one person.
Fun Fact: For those who can remember, Austin Healy was the host of the pilot show The Fuse which went head to head with The Chase in 2009 for a full series comission. ITV decided to give The Chase a full series and dumped The Fuse.
I will try to upload some footage featuring The Sinnerman this weekend.
Will Mr Healy appear with Carol Vorderman, Joe Pasquale, and (insert 4th name here) in a special quiz hosts episode in this celebrity run? Would be nice casting…
You can have anybody from.
Eamonn Holmes (loads) Carol Vorderman (Countdown), Austin Healey (The Fuse), Shaun Williamson (24 Hour Quiz), Nick Hancock (Duel), Paul Ross (loads) and Joe Pasquale (TPIR).
I can see the final chase being awkward if on of the Chasers ends up catching them and losing the charities thousands of pounds.
