Ty Treadway Becomes “Let’s Play Crosswords” Host
Program Partners has today announced that Ty Treadway, formerly of One Life to Live and currently on SoapNet’s Soap Talk has been named the host of Merv Griffin’s new game show Let’s Play Crosswords. In endorsing his choice for host, Griffin stated: “Ty exudes the kind of energy that will keep audiences engaged and excited. We are looking towards a long and successful association.” Raymond J. Brune and Andrew Yani, co-heads of TV for MGE, will oversee the half-hour syndicated strip with Merv. Brennan Huntington will be the show runner and Robert W. Rang will design the set. Emmy Award-winner Tony Garofalo is consulting producer. Josh Raphaelson of Program Partners has said: “True to form, Merv has assembled an incredibly talented team behind Let’s Play Crosswords. We can’t wait to watch their artistry on the air.” Let’s Play Crosswords debuts on syndication on September 10th, 2007. Be sure to check your local listings as the time draws closer. Doesn’t it feel nice to receive some actual information?
Now with this announcement and it’s creator, I’m willing to guess that this could fall in the time slot with the WOF/Jep! mix. It would be interesting to see if this theory is true.
The big question is: Will LPC be a smash hit like WOF and Jep! ?
Seems like a good choice, even though he’s never done a game show. But, Merv seems to have done a good deal of homework on him, so it seems he might be the right fit. Can’t wait for 9/10/07!
I think he’s got a shot at this. I remember saying the same with Bob when 1 vs. 100 began to premiere and look at him. He turned out to be a great game show host. Bob Saget of all people, heh heh. I can’t wait neither. I don’t know if it will be successful as Wheen and J! though. Not right off the bat at least. If it lasts for a few seasons, it’s possible ratings will go up.
This seems like a good choice. I’m thinking he’s picked up enough ad-lib experience from hosting a talk show for a few years.
Although Howie, Bob, and Jeff have been good, I’m kinda glad that they’re hiring someone other than a comedian, and someone with show hosting experience. It was turning into a trend that got worn out.
Merv Griffin knows his stuff, especially in the GS world. If he thinks Ty will be a good host for LPC, than I’m behind him too.
As for its time slot… AGAIN, it will not be placed in the same time slots as Wheel or J!, or paired with either, while letting the third one out on its own. It should be placed in the early fringe (4-8 p.m.), I feel, like Wheel and J!, but not the 7-8p.m. hour that Wheel and J! are most commonly found and have dominated for 20+ years…
One other consideration is that Ty has played on Soap Week on WOF. He’s been very personable, fun, and interactive. I think this is a good choice and am really excited about a fun, high quality, challenging word game coming from Merv!!
