Posted by buzzerblog as Host, NBC, New Show, The Singing Bee
Two quick news items and then an explanation for the lack of updates recently.
*Following some rather crappy ratings recently, Singing Bee will be shelved in November and replaced by a two hour Biggest Loser. That coincidentally makes The Singing Bee the biggest loser, go figure. It’s getting nearly lower than Identity level ratings which isn’t a good sign. Who would have figured Don’t Forget the Lyrics would keep its ratings while Singing Bee wouldn’t.
*Dennis Miller has signed on to host NBC’s new game show Amnesia which will create yet another genre war with FOX’s The Moment of Truth. Dennis Miller’s most recent job was hosting GSN’s Grand Slam which we really hope comes back. We don’t get smart game shows often.
And now why there have been a lack of updates. I’ve been active in television for a bit, working on stuff like Game Show Marathon and others. I decided to take control of things this time and pitch my own show with the help of some very talented people. I’ll be gone tomorrow through Saturday pitching a concept to a very respectable company. We’re going to have a BuzzerVision video of Who Wants to be a Millionaire sometime this week hopefully for certain reasons, but if you are wanting some great game show news while we’re away I strongly suggest GSNN. When we come back, I’ll tell you of my experience. I’m not really looking for a ton of “good lucks” and that kind of thing, but I just felt like I owed you all an explanation of what’s been going on. We’re usually extremely dependable for updates and the whole pitch thing has been crazy for the past three weeks. We’ll get started as soon as we can again and hopefully we’ll have some fun stories of the pitch.

I actually do enjoy the Singing Bee but two hours of The Biggest Loser. This would be one slot where 1 vs 100 could come back. I also thought about this I would personally rather see Phenomenon moved to Tuesday. Deal back on Mon, Chuck i know is not a game show on Wed at 8/7 and 1 vs 100 on Fri 8/7 central. I am also wondering if Amnesia will be great.

Three reasons Don’t Forget is still on and Singing Bee is being shelved:
1. Wayne Brady is a far better host than Joey Fatone
2. Don’t Forget involves some real money, and some real suspense.
3. The game play is far better designed in Don’t Forget…

Best of luck to you, Alex.
Whether or not your pitch is successful, do feel free to share some advice/anecdotes afterwards. I myself am certainly interested in hearing how to (or how not to) sell an idea.

that goes for me too, I too have tons of ideas I’d like to pitch and I can just imagine the excitement, the stress and everything else you’re going through, all the best.

It’s a shame the Singing Bee is getting shelved in November. I actually caught, for the first time, an entire episode of it last night (Halloween, heheh, could be appropriate), and I must say I really enjoyed it. With the multitude of 80’s songs featured, that also made me happy, along with what I thought was incredibly engaging gameplay.
As for this pitch of your Alex, may I ask? Does this “idea” of yours perchance feature trivia and also has the initials SJP??? Hehehehehehehehehehe :D
If not, it was worth a wild guess… ;)
And whether or not you wanted a ton of good lucks, I’ll extend one anyway, as it’s the right thing to do. Good luck!

Dont get any hopes up, the Bee is only on “temporary hiatus” during Sweeps, and will return in December. The “Biggest Loser” episodes had been planned to be 2 hours SINCE the beginning of the season, remember they ARE pre-recorded, and can’t be changed on the fly!
GL on ur pitch Alex, and if you want to keep BB updated, Id be willing to come on and do updates when the rest of the group is busy as heck :)

Sorry to hear about “Singing Bee” not picking up ratings. I disagree about “Lyrics” being the better show, and more of a musical derivative of “Smarter Than a 5th Grader”. I find “Bee” to be a far superior show, and a lot more fun. I don’t find a dark set and massive amounts of money to be more exciting. “Lyrics” takes itself way too seriously, which is why I prefer “Bee”.
Best wishes with your pitch, Alex, and expect an e-mail from me soon.

Good luck, and do give us plenty of stuff when you’re done—I hope to pitch a show of my own one day (don’t we all?) and the knowledge could help.

Thanks for both sharing the Millionaire excitement whilst introducing us to probably the most obnoxious contestant to appear on that or any other game show

Personally, I think I would make a great host. Hey, I’m charming, Intelligent, love fast-paced action, and know when to put in a smart quip at just the right time.
