TOP 07 OF 07: Number Two

This was by far my favorite game of 2007, producing a good number of the best moments of the year.  It’s the Grand Slam finale. Everyone knew the match-up between Ogi Ogas and Ken Jennings was going to be epic. I was never planning on it being this epic, though. The show was one of the greatest game show events I’ve seen and I’m really hoping GSN’s smart enough to renew it for a new season. But even if they don’t here’s the full game, because just one part doesn’t do this amazing game show justice. The rest are under the break.

Thank Christ this was not number one. I do not why it got so much ass-kissing, but this did not deserve the number one spot, especially with a retirement.

    YES!! YES!! YES!!

I CALLED IT!!! (and probably most of you guys too.)

This was such a new concept and it was so cool to play along with this game online.

Why was Grand Slam so good? It matched up some of the best contestants of all time. (And Amy Kelly. LOL) It was the most challenging game show to come along in a very long time. It has a great play-along factor. It was very well done, even though I didn’t care for Amanda Bynum. It’s probably the best GSN original ever. I’d love to see Grand Slam return next year with civilians playing the game, as well as Ken Jennings and other champs.

And you wonder why Grand Slam landed on the countdown where it did.

Best Line given by Dennis Miller during the finals - “I found it ironic that the contemptory (SP) knowledge round, Ken made Ogi his Biatch.”

I would like to see Grand Slam come back next season and get the winners from Greed and get that nurse from Duel on there

I just noticed one minor issue in the contemporary knowledge round a question was incorrectly phrased: @ 26 seconds in, they asked “who immediately proceeded Kelly Ripa…” that was supposed to be preceeded but Ogi got it right anyway.

Truly an awesome show and I too am hoping for another season. and Mike i thought Amanda was alright, albeit you can tell when she’s reading the telepromopter but she held her own in the exchanges with Dennis.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a different tournament format next year, say, a round robin-type (everyone faces everyone) 1 pt. for each round, 2 pts. for the final round and the top 4 faceoff in the finals with 4th vs. 3rd the winner faces 2nd and that winner facing 1st. This way we’d get a better idea of how each person really stacks up, but the flaw is you’d have to reduce the number of contestants since 16 contestants would mean 184 matches assuming 2 games per show that’s 92 eps. and I don’t think GSN would committ to that, and here’s an idea put a kid’s jeopardy champ in there that would be interesting to see if Ken or Ogi could beat a 12-year old (lol)

Let’s get GSN to do GRAND SLAM 2008! Bring back the elite eight from this year’s grand slam plus the latest sweet sixteen featuring some of the new set of game show champions. The classic champions, the recent champions, and top-female champion Ashlee Register!

Since I pretty much agree with all the comments here (except SuperMatch2007’s) let me just say this: with or without said rule changes, if there’s a petition to persuade GSN to bring Grand Slam back, “Where do I sign?”

There are so many quiz show contestants that would make great contestants on Grand Slam. If GSN wisely decides to bring back Grand Slam (and they should), I would recommend this idea: (besides getting rid of Dennis Miller and bringing in say Todd Newton to handle lead commentary) Seeing that there a ton of contestants that range from great quiz shows such as Jeopardy, Tic Tac Dough, 1 vs. 100, Millionaie/Super Millionaire, etc., keep the 16 contestant format and have Ken Jennings and Ogi Oggas as the 1 and 2 seeds respectivly and have as many of theselegendary quiz show contestants partake in a non-televised regular season having the top 14 contestants re-seeded from 3 to 16 (the money idea was just totally unfair as Michelle Kitt was nowhere close to a #14 seed). To also steal an idea from the NHL, re-seed the players after each round making the best possible match-up possible (to avoid a San Antonio/Phoenix match). It would be nice to see the nurse from Duel and now even Jason Luna and that guy who 9 games on Jeopardy! recently, however, I think game show rules state that they have to wait 1 year before trying out for a game show so hopefully we can see them in Grand Slam 2009. I also think in the spirit of the NCAA March Madness it would be nice to see a college Grand Slam tourney. I disagree with anybody who says that this game should also be open to regular people. This tourney settles who is the best of the best quiz show contestant that actually played in a quiz show. Leave this show to the legends.
