TOP 07 OF 07: Number Five

Next on our countdown is one of two moments of sadness. This one is actually about a show: the revival of Temptation. To say that was an anticipated show among the game show community is a major understatement. To say that there was a severe level of sadness and confusion after a few weeks of its debut is another understatement. Even I am left wondering how they could screw the show so much. Many problems came from just how brutally feminine the show is. It’s staggering how it is; it’s like they forgot men existed when creating it. Whether or not is sees another season is up in the air (I’d guess no at this point), but here’s a clip of the new revival of Temptation.

I think their trying to get men in on it, the last couple of eps. I’ve seen had a few prizes that appeal to men too, for eg. one instant bargain today was a camping package with a tent, portable fan, microwave & air mattress. But the vast majority of them are still feminine prizes I’m getting sick of plugs for bag, borrow or steal and the pink cell phones & laptops. I got enough weird looks that time I made a call on my classmate’s pink RAZR.

and they should have upped the instant cash, it just looks tacky when someone actually gets excited over $100. They could have so easily started it at $1,000 and grow it by $500 everyday to max of $5,000 and had the other 2 have $500 in them, it would look more presentable and offer more of an incentive for people to go for it. (this is still low but it’s a realistic offer to fremantle)

Lastly, drop the 5-day limit, it would be so much more exciting to see someone try for win 6, 7 or beyond and offer a way to win the whole lot and a cash jackpot. (or at least the whole lot). A whole load of problems,

let’s see: Card Sharks (2001), Match game (1998), Sale of The Century, (and I’m sure i’m forgetting some)
Fremantle media take my advice: when it comes to revivals hire a 3rd party to produce it and just be there as a “silent partner”. That way, the game show fans won’t hate you and you’ll actually make money.

Since the show wasn’t available in the market where I live, I only got to see a clip of the 1st episode. My verdict= boring. End of story.

Yeah, I think the answer to how could they screw the show so much was supplied by Marc.
It’s Fremantle…what more explanation does one need?

Jim Perry couldn’t even save this disaster.

Any number of my previous posts re this disaster (and that’s putting it nicely) that I could choose to repeat would not make a lick of difference, so why bother?
I can only hope Regis’s Password gets decent treatment from Fremantle; if not, then Two legends (instead of one) would be utterly screwed beyond any salvation.
They’re called VIEWERS, Fremantle - don’t play them for idiots…

Everytime I think of Temptation, I wonder why OUR version couldn’t be like the Australian version. Who does Fremantle think WE are? Rednecks?

Maybe the game would’ve been decided by the Trivia Race. Take the scoring format of “Split Second’s” countdown round, add the Trivia Trap $1000 Trivia Race touch and it would’ve been interesting. And have MORE men this time around. Is this Fremantle or a borefest? TTD ‘90 was one.

I actually got to for the first time today check out our version of Temptation and here is what i think. I don’t mind the gameplay all that much maybe because there is two parts of the game that is like Wipeout which is another gameshow I really enjoy but my disappointment is not with the gameplay but the host. He just doesn’t cut it for me I think Mark L. Walberg would have fit in well for this show. Granted though the 80’s version of this show is definity much better and I think if this show doesn’t get a new host it’s going to be cancelled within the next 2 months.

Re-run heads up warning… tonight’s Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno has Ross trying to host “Temptation”…

I feel blessed that OMNI passed on this piece of…… Ithis is just a clip and I feel ill.

I recently had the blessing of being (wait, did I just say “blessing?”)

    Take two. (*snap)
I recently had the chance to see Temptation for the first time. I must say, it is quite terrible. I haven’t seen the Australian version, but it sounds like something really got thrown to pot in the works. All I know is, it’s not nearly as fun as the original. Too many cheesy games that seem ripped from other game shows (and they are), not enough… what’s the word? Entertainment.

(POTENTIAL SPOILER, PLEASE DON’T KILL ME IF IT IS, ALEX…) If this is the first of two sad pieces, I can only assume that the second one is the passing of our beloved Merv Griffin?

Temptation is an embarassment to the Sale of the Century name. I thought that a revival of SOTC would work and be really cool to see. But since Fremantle was involved I gave up hope. and now I’m worried about Million Dollar Password. Fremantle did something right with tapping Regis as the host. I only hope they didn’t screw up the classic game known as Password.

am I missing something? Yes it’s slower paced and the knock off game is a bit of a miss and the cheapness of the Instant Ca$h (which was a fn NBC budget insertion anyway and shoulda been scrapped) is a problem but I don’t think it’s horrid…is it as good as Perry’s version, NO but it’s truer to the format than say CS01. I dont hate it…I think It’s a little dry and I agree they need MORE prize distributors rather than full blown sponsors but this is a problem that’s creeping up on big time shows like Wheel so I’ll give them a small pass.

The prizes need to be upped but we are talking mynet which has a lower budget than most cable these days.

And (HERESY ALERT) I always thought that the shopping round was anticlimatic even in victory…the winners board with a setup where you spent for picks I thought would be a happy medium.

It’s a decent show but like osmond pyramid, too much jazz, not enough host power and the seams show on the cheapness too much.

I know most people hate this show but I give it a C+
