Sorry, but you're a little late to the party Ben. We've pretty much discussed why this money tree works better in the long run than the previous one! You neglect to mention that contestants now have better reason and incentives to go deeper into the game, and it's showing.

Last night's episode proves why this money ladder is inferior to the other three money ladders they've used.

The guy had only eliminated nine mob members through his first five questions. Under the December 2006-2007 format, that would have been worth around $15,000. Under this format, it's worth...you guessed it, $0. No one should get $0 for answering five consecutive questions correctly.

Going from $0 to $250,000 in three questions? That is just so wrong.

Please go back to this format:
3 questions @ $1,000
2 questions @ $2,000
1 question @ $3,000 etc....

I was like most & not looking forward to the new money system, but after seeing it executed my only nit-pick is the values on it. I'd suggest the following:

10 eliminated = $5,000
20 eliminated = $10,000
30 eliminated = $15,000
40 eliminated = $25,000
50 eliminated = $50,000
60 eliminated = $75,000
70 eliminated = $125,000
80 eliminated = $250,000
90 eliminated = $500,000
all eliminated = $1,000,000

I know it resembles Weakest Link & Millionaire but I have a problem with 10 eliminated for just $1,000. All in all, great game likable new format.

You know I really wasn't looking forward to this new money system, but when a 21 year old won the $1,000,000 on the season premiere that was just incredible. I now fully see what NBC was trying to do by trying to create a money tree that would make people take more risks. Amazing it took something as that to get the first million dollar winner in the history of the show. From now on I'm not going to complain about something until I see the episode and see how it fully works out. Man NBC sure showed us who's boss.

I'm not really thrilled with the new prize ladder, but it did make the game go faster. Maybe it's the way it's presented on the screen, but it's just kinda too busy or something. I think I like the format better, but it could be worse I suppose.

I will say that I found the two contestants on this episode to be quite annoying, not to mention NBC already ruined the whole thing by saying that one person is going to win a million dollars. Once the female contestant started the show, I knew it was going to be the guy who won. Wouldn't make sense to start the show with a million dollar win and then go downhill from there. Eh. Anti-climactic if you ask me.

As for the winning question: When you really think about it, Christmas did make sense to be the right answer. People usually only send a Mother's Day card to one person (their mother), and even though not everyone celebrates Christmas - people who do usually send out much much more than just one card...

Ths might be just my view, but with the new mob setup, it looks bigger and more intimidating. Plus, the finally put that goofy screen so the question is staring the contestant down, as it should be. Good to hear they gave away the million, if only I saw it :-\

Oops. I have to backtrack to where I said "NO FREAKIN' SPOILERS!", I got too excited there. I meant to say "NO FREAKIN' SUPPORTERS!" It's very refreshing to see a show where the contestant can be able to make his/her own decision without their "friends" (yeah right) making a bad decision for them or talking them into a bad decision.

I knew it! I had a feeling that NBC would have the 1st millionaire on 1 vs. 100 first before DonND (BTW, has there been a millionaire yet? I don't think so. Michelle Falco is still their best contestant). 1 vs. 100 is so much better produced that DorND. I mean, there were no cliffhangers (no ideas NBC please!) and the pacing was 100x better. I really liked the new money system. I'm happy that they didn't do a "Winning Lines" style tree in which you won money for each member eliminated, this one works much better. Another positive: NO FREAKIN' SPOILERS!!! Yeah-haw! DorND could take some ideas from tonights game. Personally, I would have given the kid $1,100,000 by instituting a jackpot system adding money to the top amount every time the top prize is not won (Are you listening NBC?) My only one beef with this game, is even though I was so happy for Jason winning the mil and proving why 1 vs. 100 kicks DorND's ass, is that I knew already he was going to win. I am stick and tired of NBC using promos telling you what is happening on the next episode and giving away so much, IT A GAME SHOW FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!! That would be like giving away what is coming up next on say, Jeopardy!, Wheel, or The Price is Right. Other than that, a great night for 1 vs. 100, I knew they would have the first millionaire and I'm glad it happened.

i also thought it was christmas based on that greed question.

and if you thought that olympic event question had sexual innuendo in it? listen to bob:

"5 women away from $250,000"
"5 women away from $500,000"
"15 women away from $1,000,000"

that was very exciting to watch. I wasn't sure i would like this new system but it was better than I thought especially when they would wait to see if you eliminate for example one more to get to the next level and they would wait 5-10 seconds and then show them doing that talk about tension. This ended up being better than I thought although I still like the last format but I now say i won't compare this to Trivia Trap Fact Or Fiction Format. I hope this show will stay around for a long time and some of the jokes were funny too like that one question involving some olympic or weightlifting event or something of that nature sure there were some sexual inneudos in it but still 1 vs 100 was a fun hour of TV and I will be looking forward to next week and the coming weeks.

Christmas seemed the logical one to me because people exchange multiple Christmas cards and only one for the other two - in other words, what Whammy said - but then I only worked that out in a little while, and clearly none of the Mob thought of that.

I'm not convinced this is the best prize structure, but it's simple, likely to lead to dramatic moments (though this one wasn't attributable to it), and I think we'd have liked it more if it had started this way all along rather than replacing the mostly very good 2007 ruleset.

I'm still getting over the fact that the first $1m win on an NBC show in this game show wave was not on DoND...

You know, I swear I heard a similar question on Greed once. The question was something to the effect of "Which of the following Holidays are responsible for the most Hallmark Cards?" For some reason I remember Chuck Woolery saying that Mother's Day beat out everything else.

I would have missed that question based on that info.
