This Weekend in BuzzerVision

I hope you all had a good weekend.  A few interesting moments happened over the past few days around the world.  One happened today and will be coming in as soon as we can.  However, for now, we’ve got two clips.

*Here’s another preview of the updated version of Lingo.  Remember, in our official review, I discussed my issues with the tone of the show, the clues, and the contestants?  GSN actually uploaded a clip that displays what I feel could be a problem for the show right as the review went up.  Take a look below and let me know what you think.

Again, I’m far from a prude.  Check our Twitter feed to check out.  My issue is that the old Lingo was popular because it was a word game literally anyone could play.  GSN decided to modernize the show you need as many dick jokes in a half hour as possible.  And apparently the jokes have taken it away from being a game show and made it more of an everybody show.  Those jokes should segue into the new bible quiz tournament well.  I still don’t know.  The basic core of the main game stayed the same.  If they aren’t careful the change in tone and the complete ineptitude, in general, of the contestants is going to be brutal.  Be ready for the slowest Bonus Lingo you’ve ever seen.

*The Cube is still continuing what is, by far, its best season this past weekend.  The Cube right now is in top form currently.  The show’s never looked better, they’ve got an incredibly good set of games, and it’s hard to find something as tense anywhere on television.  Of course, it doesn’t always go well.  Take a look at a moment from this weekend below.  If you aren’t screaming at your monitor, even in your head, while watching then something’s wrong with you.

Congratulations, by the way, to the entire cast and crew of The Cube for winning the Lou Grade award for Best Entertainment Program at this weekend’s BAFTA Awards.  You all deserve it, so congratulations again.

*We’ve got some Deal or No Deal coming later.

Family hour is over when it comes to the new Lingo. Chuck and later Stacey made the show fun and enjoyable for everyone.

  • George S. says:

They seem to be following the Family Feud trend. What I mean by that is they’re going off a lot of crude humour to try and get people to watch. Frankly, that’s the reason I don’t really like Feud with Steve Harvey.

    • MikeSant318 says:

Feud has always been somewhat entendred throughout its life, it’s just that Steve Harvery reacts more annoyed to it than the previous hosts have…

  • Abric says:

My joy for lingo returning is starting to scare me.

  • The Banker's Nephew says:

Why on Earth would you want to take Lingo out of the game show realm? It’s a game show on freaking Game Show Network for crying out loud! And honestly, I’m a bit disappointed to see how much of the set is that awful city background. In what show did those first show up, and who must I send an angry and hastily-written email to to make them stop using them?

Leave it to GSN to take a once-great game show and infuse it with sexual comments and innuendo in an attempt to attract a new viewing audience. Don’t we already have enough of that in The Newlywed Game, Baggage, Love Triangle, and Improv-A-Ganza? Guess not.

Whoever is running GSN seems to think that every program they produce (game show or not) must have some sort of sexual reference in it for it to be funny. But it’s not funny.

On occasion, you have that sexual comment or question in 1 VS 100 or the old Lingo, but that was spontaneous and that’s what made it hilarious to the viewing audience. But intentionally infusing sexual-based humor into game shows to make them funny, or hiring comedians that don’t know the meaning of the word ‘humor’, doesn’t make a game show interesting or appealing.

Pretty sure The Cube‘s season finale was this weekend. I think you all reported it’ll be back in the fall, right? :) Anyway, that’s excellent news for them from the TV BAFTAs. It’s an excellent game show.

    • David says:

It was the last civilian show of the season- they have a celebrity special next week, and a couple of more taped (plus it did get picked up for a 4th season).

  • David B says:

Taking a leaf out of Lingo’s book, the new games for the next series of The Cube include “Erection”, “Squat”, “Stopcock”, “Shaft”, and “Weiner”.

  • GSN fan says:

Thank god Lingo is only 2 weeks away. I think it was a bad idea for GSN to put Lingo on at 8:00, because that is when other, bigger T.V. networks are competing with bigger shows like American Idol and Dancing With the Stars. Because of that, the general public may watch FOX and ABC instead on Lingo.

    I will still watch Lingo.

  • MountainHawk says:

Chuck Woolery’s “Scrabble” often had suggestive clues for clean words. However in one episode there were three words in a row which may have pushed the envelope unintentionally.

    1. The clue was “they’re grand” the answer was TETONS. After the word was revealed, Chuck went on to say that the when the Grand Tetons were discovered, they reminded the explorers of big “Dolly Partons” and “tetons” is French for that body part.

    2. The clue was “Dolly Parton has two big ones” (followed by sound effect of a horn honking twice). Answer: BROTHERS.

    3. Then this happens:

As far as the new Lingo goes, it’s the Fleming/Tauber era all over again.

  • Nando says:

Wow, uh… who thought this was a good idea again?

  • Josh says:

About that Cube vid, I must admit, it took me three lives before I actually figured out the correct number. I’m quite embarrassed that I couldn’t quickly add up 3+2. >.< Good thing I got 29 in my 3rd try. :P

  • Adam R. Wood says:

That does it. I need to move to England. He gets a thousand pounds for THAT?! – ZM
