This Week in UK Game Shows

The two popular game shows in the UK at the moment produced some memorable moments earlier this week. Firstly is The Chase. It has been reported in recent days the show is now hitting 3 million viewers and dominating the 5pm slot, pushing BBC One’s Weakest Link to their lowest ratings for a long time. It has also given ITV’s best ratings for their 5pm slot since Autumn 2005.  Tuesday’s show featured two contestants, Keith and Jordan who faced The Governess, Anne Hegerty. One of these contestants produced a “first” for the show. Check out the clip below to see which one created a “first” for the The Chase. The clips features both the cashbuilder and chase rounds for both contestants.

The other clip we have is taken from last night’s Million Pound Drop Live. Micah and Joni began the show with £1 million before answering question one, they are trying to become the fourth consecutive team to beat the drop. The clip features the couple answering question three. I won’t say what happens, you might as well watch the clip yourself.

I still stand by Weakest Link. I really love that show. I think what might attract more viewers is another celebrity special, which I don’t think they have done one in a while.

The celebrity specials have been aired specifically for primetime in recent years but it seems they no longer produce them for the Saturday nighr audience. I have noticed over the last few months they have been bringing back the themed show for the daytime edition. Something they haven’t done in 6-7 years. We had a week of themed shows to celebrate the 10th anniversary (drag queens, alternative world cups) and some more which ran throughout Christmas (loud for a living, animal lovers).

Uk Weakest Link been stale over the last few years Anne is not sharp like she used to be i remember how much energy she puts into reading the questions. And trying to rush them in

They should pull a Millionaire and change the graphics and Music

    • Josh says:

Maybe it’s the paycut she got, lol. I hear she’s only getting £2 million instead of the £4 million she used to receive working for the BBC.

I still think they could’ve shown a better shot of the Million pounds all falling down the drop. FOX’s Million Dollar Money Drop had better camera angles than this…

I showed this to Chuckles (great and good friend) on Saturday last (12). His reaction was as I’d expected: laughing out loud.

I can’t help but wonder how Keith managed to get past those who are in charge of screening the contestants. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the like on any game show, American or British!

However, not only was Keith good-natured about it–so were Bradley Walsh and Anne Hegarty. Ann seemed to be having a “Garbo laughs!” moment, especially when she admitted that she almost got one question deliberately wrong in order to keep Keith on longer.

I fear that poor Keith is becoming notorious. There are already at least two posts of his performance on YT, and who knows where else it has popped up, or will pop up in the near future. What next–those infamous “late-night blooper shows”?? (Thanks to Richard Whiteley.)
