“The Price is Right” Contestant from 1961 Returns to Contestant Row

A few years ago CBS updated the eligibility requirements for their long running daytime game show The Price is Right.  They are now letting contestants who appeared on the show ten years ago back.  This lets some contestants from a long, long time ago to return to the stage and play for even bigger cash and prizes.  One of these situations happened today, but it wasn’t a previous contestant from the Bob Barker era.  Jane, a contestant who appeared on the Bill Cullen edition from 1961 returned to the show and made it on stage to play for a very nice trip on Double Prices.  It was a great segment.

Check it out.

    Amazing segment indeed.

Would’ve like to have heard more about her experiences on the original PiR — but I understand their time constraints.

That’s wonderful that she was able to get back on the show, and win again. And I agree with Doug. I would have loved to hear more about her experiences on the Bill Cullen edition of the show.

    Annapolis? Really!

As I just previously posted over at Facebook, BIll Cullen must have been looking down very happy with this special moment. Now I will say one thing here! Bill Cullen and Bob Barker are the two greatest game show hosts ever lived. If anyone saw that PBS Television episode reflecting on game shows you would only see two pictures of those two legendary game show hosts! Picture Perfect!

I’m trying to figure out how they got that trip to be so expensive- I live near Annapolis, and while it’s expensive, $9K for a 3-night trip and a 3-hour cruise?

I sure wish Drew would have asked her where she got that photo of herself on the 1961 show that was on her t-shirt. It looked like a screen grab. I can only guess that she must have been on one of the episodes show on Game Show Network and a family member recorded it and made that shirt. It truly was amazing how she did indeed, as Drew pointed out, have the EXACT same facial and hand gesture reaction when she won her one-bid on both versions. I rewound and paused the video. It was spooky and delightful. One of the most charming contestants to appear in many years, for sure.

this is why you let players back after 10 years…excellently done and very fun. I can see why Barker wouldn’t like it (too much familiarity) but for a moment like this It’s worth it. Given how low the odds of being picked are anyway, why not. It makes for a touching moment.

As for the cullen comments. Yes he was the GOAT. Better than barker. Too bad his polio limp kept him from doing the more elaborate modern version. Would have loved to see him instead of Dennis James (Now that would be a power pair, AM Barker PM Cullen!)

I always noticed that when Carey first took over Price hosting (Which I think he’s doing a great job after some early missteps him and Grey are as good a pair as Barker and Roddy) he wore his glasses in the same style Cullen wore…always loved that attention to history, and I’ve seen a few places that suggest that was no accident.
