“The Price is Right” Throws a Disco for Halloween

One thing CBS’s The Price is Right does exceptionally well year after year are their themed shows.  The Halloween episodes are ones to never miss.  This year on Monday, October 31st, Drew Carey, George Gray, and crew are throwing a 1970′s disco party.  The set, cast, and crew will be dressed up.  Some games will be given a temporary upgrade to look more 70s.  Not only that, special guest Ted Lange from the classic sitcom The Love Boat will stop by and help present a Showcase.  The special Halloween episode of The Price is Right will air Monday, October 31st on CBS.

Here’s a preview of the opening.  Excited?  Looks like it’ll be a great special.

It’s the most decadent and the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen in my entire history of watching game shows. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

  • Xavier says:

I can already see the complaints coming about this.

  • The opening theme totally reminds me of the theme they used in the 94 syndicated version with Doug Davidson. Pretty cool if you ask me.

  • shelly says:

    Awesome. *nods*

  • Anderson DelValle says:

TPIR just keeps getting better and better.

  • Scott says:

Don’t forget that Let’s Make a Deal will also be airing a special Halloween episode this coming Monday as well. ^_^

  • glenn says:

If they really wanted to do this they’d bring out the old 70s games dressed in their old sets, like Any Number :)

  • djcchs2004 says:

Next year, they need to do the 80s theme show.

    • Alex says:

The problem with that is, at least IMHO, a 1980′s-themed game show only works with a female announcer.

Every idea I’ve ever come up with for a 1980′s-themed TPIR has the announcer speaking in Valley Girl:
      - “It’s, like, a totally new CAR!!! It’s, like, a 2012 Chevy Cruze! Comes with that totally grody-looking GPS thingy, plus automatic transmission, OnStar, tilt steering, and…”
      - “Dude, you are SO playing Plinko for, like, $50,000! Isn’t that just, like, totally awesome?”
      - “It’s a bunch of totally dreamy-looking designer fashions!”
      - “These Chips Ahoy cookies will, like, put a smile on your face…but they’ll also make you fat. D:”
      - “(A bed is the next IUFB, but the announcer is initially asleep.) …Like, wha? Oh!”
      - “That reminds me. I just got this, like, totally awesome new credit card, so now I can do some totally major shopping.”
      - “SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!! Like, OMG, this is, like, so awesome! Ladies and gentlemen, from, like, Magnum P.I., here’s Tom Selleck!”
      - “…and this Showcase thingy could SO be yours if the price is right!”
      - “I am <announcer name>, and I am like, SO done speaking for The Price is Right, a, like, totally awesome Fremantle Media production!”

Wouldn’t work very well with George Gray, now would it? xD

Speaking of which, Good Luck Drew tomorrow at the Marine Corps Marathon!

  • Counterpoint says:

    This is getting tiresome.

“The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”

  • Adam says:

Anyone notice what pricing game prop was used in that open? I could be wrong, but it appears they used it at least. Wanna see if anyone can guess before I say though.

    • Nick Todor says:

If you’re referring to the Pathfinder board, you couldn’t be more wrong… for one, that grid they’re using is 6×6 (Pathfinder’s is 5×5), and it lights up way different than Pathfinder’s does.

  • George S. says:

Watching the Halloween edition right now and I am completely loving it.

  • STI says:

One thing I have to say: it was both necessary* and cool for them to bring out some of the contestants for the “dance party” prize.

*It ain’t much of a dance party if you only have one person dancing on stage.

  • Steve says:

As with theme shows past, games weren’t allowed to play long. Therefore, two normally non-car games were used. That said, they were both vintage ’72 games.

They inserted two breaks to show a lot of people dancing on stage during stopdowns. Plus some retro cues. Loved the show!

  • Xavier says:

It was great hearing many of the older cues, especially Big Banana in the 5th pricing game.

  • Dave C says:

If they really wanted to go 70s, they should do some “dead” games, like Prof. Price.

  • Jon says:

It was good to hear some of those classic cues again even if most of the gameplay was not up to ’70s levels. On a side note, “The Talk” has a Wizard of Oz theme going for its Halloween show. Wonder if they’ll do the ’70s next year, if they’re still on the air?
