“The Price is Right” Sees Largest Audience in a Year

THE PRICE IS RIGHTGreat news for The Price is Right on CBS and even better news for me to laugh at all the doom-and-gloomers.  The long-running daytime game show recently saw its highest ratings in a year which is fantastic news.  They split the show’s ratings into each half hour so bear with me.  Price‘s second half hour (usually 11:30AM ET)  averaged 5.51 million viewers during the week ending October 16th.  This is the highest it’s been since Christmas week last year.  Ratings apparently go up around that time so we should be seeing some new highs then as well.  In the key demographics they look for, with women 25-54 the show had a 1.6/10 rating and in women 18-49 it had a 1.3/9.  These are both highs since the summer.  Fantastic job there.

The first half hour traditionally does lower than the second, but it still did great overall.  It saw 4.48 million viewers which was the highest since the week ending January 16th.  Key demographics show women 25-54 at a 1.4/9 and 18-49 with 1.1/7.  Both are highs since January and April, respectively.  Averaged out and The Price is Right got around five million viewers during its entire hour.  If we want to put this into context The Jay Leno Show does just about this well with massive promotion in primetime.  So congratulations to the entire Price staff on that.

I’m really glad to see it doing well because this season has been going incredibly smoothly.  Host Drew Carey tested the waters of the show in his first season, he saw how far he could push the format in season two, and we’re at a nice comfort level in season three.  He maintains some of the funny and crazy humor and atmosphere that I enjoy along with the game still being fine and ironed out.  Rich Fields is doing fantastic as always.  He seems to have really flourished with Drew.  Those two are the perfect team.  He’s opened up a lot more.  The set looks beautiful and actually like it came from this decade which is fantastic.  I just really haven’t seen the show in this all-around good shape in a very long time.

The show’s getting ready for their Valentine’s Day special and they want to have some of the ultimate Valentine’s Day prizes thrown in.  The staff would love your suggestions so click here to visit Price‘s website and tell them what you think.

That is excellent, and I'll join you in mocking the haterz and the naysayers. :)

    That's what I'm talking about!

Good news. And someone on GR.net is trying to bring down everyone's good mood. I'm sick of SteveGavazzi's shit. He needs to get his head out of his ass and enjoy the damn show. Drew is doing an fantastic job this season. The show is much smoother then S37. This is good news. Shouldn't we as game show fans be happy about this?

Adding to my last comment, Price feels less tired then it was during the final days of Bob's tenure. The show feels fresh and exciting again. That's a good thing.

Amen, Adam and Myke25! I myself am a G-R.net member but I'm nothing like the naysayers over there. I represent the "positive minority" over there who felt that TPIR was never "doomed" or "needed to be saved" since Drew took over. Look what's been happening since then – Drew has treated the entire staff and audience like family, Rich has opened up a lot more, the models are enjoying what they're doing more, and the addition of R. Brian DiPirro as director has proven to be a huge boost

I support Drew, Rich and the entire TPIR staff and congratulate them on their ratings success. Here's to many more great shows to come!

    Happy belated birthday, Craig.

  • God bless you Stephanie. I've seen nothing but moaning and groaning from the other GR.net members since Drew took over. Drew deserves this job. Bob's gone and he's never coming back. Neither is Roger. Price is still the same show. In the words of Monty Hall. "It's the same horse, It just needed a new jockey" TPIR needed a new person to steer the ship. And that person was Drew Carey. Price is still on the air and doing great in the ratings. Let's be happy about that.

SteveGavazzi is basically "Comic Book Guy" of the game show world. Pompous ass, full of himself because, what, someone who once worked on the show humored him a few times?

  • Myke25 says:

I do visit G-R every so often…mainly for the entertainment value. I do get a sadistic chuckle from how some posters take the show…and themselves…WAY too seriously. Some of them definitely need to find a hobby…or a new favorite game show. It is kinda sad that a couple of self-absorbed conspiracy theorists have the ability to drag some of the gentler, intelligent posters down to their level of insanity. Shouting "I'm right and you're stupid" is no way to make your point.

That said, I should have said "some" G-R.net'ers" in the above post. I shouldn't condemn an entire group of fans because a few of them like to "scream at telephone poles." Most of the posters were genuinely happy that the numbers were up…as they should be. It's good for the genre over all, and will open the door for more shows.
And that's what we all want here…and on G-R.

But, see, here's the thing: I've been browsing Golden Road.net's forums for quite a long time, and Steve used to not be that way. He still acted like a pompous ass, but he was more supportive of the show.

As far as I can tell, Roger Dobkowitz's firing back in 2008 was his turning point. I don't know why he changed. :(

  • Pete says:

    Amen Brutha ;-)

I'm also a member of GR-NET (although I don't post very much, for obvious reasons) and I've been waiting for someone else to say that!!

  • pentellit says:

Stephanie, I don't think you're in a minority anymore on g-r. There has been a steadily growing number of fans who are enjoying the show. I see less and less moaning and wailing about Bob&Dob getting canned, and more and more excitement about the show. Sure, there is a small group of Negative Nellies who are still whining and complaining about anything they can, but it seems like the majority of posters, just as the show has, have moved on.
