You sir are nuts. Drew is one of the greatest hosts ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To Myke25: I thought I’d ask that question. It’s nothing for me to raise cane over.
To asdf: You think that Drew Carey’s the greatest host ever? Ok, it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it, but I doubt if he’ll give Bill Cullen a run for his money simply because Cullen’s been doing game shows for (give or take) 50 years before he retired.
To Joltman: I wonder that too.
Also, Gene Rayburn was referred to as 'the host' of "Match Game" when it first came back on CBS in 1973, and it didn't seem to bother him any.
You can't even hear the opening "come on down" music (nicely redone for the Drew era) when the show starts. The new opening is too rushed. The showcase podium numbers are too small and do not show well. Make those changes and we've got a great audio/visual makeover.
Drew still sort of ambles his way through, though very likeable. I do like that he has shed the "standup comic" look. He looks more like a pro now (even with the fuzz on his lower lip), so now his diction and pacing need to improve. His rapport with Rich Fields is now better than I ever would have expected three years ago, and Rich seems more able to show his true personality (a smart move). And, Drew treats the models with utmost respect and not as cheesecake. Huge improvement over Barker. Thanks for taking us into the 21st century…

After seeing the ENTIRE first week of Season 38, I have to say, everything just LOOKS better! And Contestant's Row got a MUCH-NEEDED technical change (those old displays were getting long in the tooth and absurdly difficult to read).
Overall, it was a much-needed change that I don't think anyone was expecting. Drew is definitely coming into his own as the host (and I'm glad he's being intro'd as just the host, he knows who the TRUE stars of the show are).
And just like Carnie Wilson of Newlywed Game, Drew Carey cannot be compared with Bob Barker (or Bob Eubanks for that matter! :D). Drew puts his own special twist on the show that I am appreciating more and more, especially since (in the final years of the Barker era) it was getting slow as molasses, it wasn't at all exciting, and the lethargy of the format was almost absurdly obvious.
Now that being said, I'm not trying to kiss up to Barker or anything here, but I definitely did enjoy his run on The Price Is Right. I really felt like when he retired on his own terms 2 years ago now, he left the door wide open for the changes we're seeing now, and I appreciate that he had the guts to step down when everyone was expecting him to host the show forever.

But it didn't take long for him to achieve "Star" status on Match Game. 1974, I think.
