“The Price is Right” DVD Details
I have a feeling some of the more “passionate” The Price is Right fans are going to be happy when the DVD is released. First off, it’s going to be $39.98 on March 25th; it’s a four-DVD set that includes 930 minutes of shows. What shows you ask? Well you’re in for a treat if you’re a big fan.
Some newer episodes included will be Bob Barker’s full final week. However, they are going very very retro as well. Also included is the very first episode and some more interspersed. If you’re not a Barker fan, maybe the classic Bill Cullen edition will entice you. Yes, they are including some of the old black and white episodes. The twenty six episodes on the set probably won’t include and Drew Carey episodes, but I doubt many will care since those are available online. Some of you might want to pre-order it from Amazon for $10 cheaper. Do that from here.
Looks like Price fans have an early Christmas present.

Bob Barker and Bill Cullen. They are the two greatest game show hosts of all time!
…Or a very belated one! Nothing like watching “Uncle Bill” hosting TPIR; arguably the man at his textbook best! Nothing to take away from Barker, but it was the late Mr. Cullen who originally put that classic on the map. It’d have been nice to have include at least one version each, hosted by Dennis James and Tom Kennedy (maybe another time, huh?)
You forgot about Doug Davidson…………er, wait a sec……..
This is the BEST of TPIR! So, on second thought……:p
This information makes me suspicious that we won’t see any episodes featuring Dian, Holly, or Kathleen. (Janice and Anitra seem to be fair game since clips of them have been shown recently.) All of the episodes mentioned are from before or after those three models’ tenures on the show. Plus, having Bob’s entire last week is pretty excessive. And they will apparently be having multiple Cullen episodes, which isn’t a bad thing in and of itself, but I get the impression that they may be padding the set out with them to make up for the years they can’t use.
I certainly hope I’ll be proven wrong here, but I just have a bad feeling. The set would still be worth it for the Cullen episodes and Barker’s first, but it would be a disappointment if they left out what I consider to be the best years of the show.
Dennis James, perhaps the first and foremost of TV game show hosts, is responsible for putting THE PRICE IS RIGHT back to television. He even recommended both Bob Barker and Janice Pennington for TPIR. Especially for the daytime edition.
In my earliest recollections (like the age of three in early to mid 1974) I watched all these game shows and seeing these different game show hosts. The one that would stand out from the rest of the block was Bill Cullen. I thought he was like the nicest guy on the game show block. Next in line would probably be Art Fleming and third in line would probably be Peter Marshall.
I would definately check out this DVD if it really does get sold over at Borders!
Did you forget the Drew Carey ones as well? I wanted it to be on Volume 2.
You mean FremantleMedia is going over the mighty Bob Barker’s head and showing the first episode of “TPIR” on this DVD set – oh my God is Bob going to have a hissy fit, as it featured a FUR COAT as the first item up for bids! Thank God he isn’t controlling this DVD set like he did the people behind the scenes when he was on the show!
