“The Price is Right” Begins New Episodes Tomorrow; New Website Launched

THE PRICE IS RIGHTNext week (and tomorrow for that matter) is another big one for game show fans.  Yeah, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader launches and with its nonexistent PR I can’t wait to see the numbers it does, but what is essentially the holy grail of game shows comes back tomorrow with new episodes.  The Price is Right will kick off its 38th season.  On Friday, September 18th, one leftover show from season 37 which was held back for some reason will air, so be sure to check that out and see why they kept it waiting.  But starting Monday, September 21st, all new episodes of Price is Right will resume.  A few changes are being made this season, most of which are cosmetic.  The turntable area got a complete redo and it actually looks like a game show set now.  Not something someone set up in their backyard.  It’s been said that a few games have been touched up because of the transition to HD so check those out as well.

Drew Carey will return to host, and Rich Fields is still the announcer.  I’ve made it no secret I’m a gigantic fan of Drew, and he’s really the reason I stay tuned in.  Last season was definitely a transition, as they tried to feel how far out they could go before they went too far.  They found the boundary and by the end of season 37 the show was in the best shape I’ve seen in an incredibly long time.  It’s finally funny, spontaneous, and just all-around fun.  I know some disagree but they’ve won me over.  Rich is still doing fantastic as well and hopefully we get to see him in more Showcases this year.  But as someone who watched it all but once or twice a season with the old version, I’m really enjoying this updated version which finally seems to be near completion this season.  I know we have quite a few around here that feel the same as I do.  The show’s not like a crotchety old woman anymore.  It’s more like a cougar.  I think I just disturbed myself there.

There’s a special guest on Monday as well.  One of my favorites, Craig Ferguson, from The Late Late Show will be on.  He co-starred in The Drew Carey Show so this should be interesting.

In addition, The Price is Right‘s website has been relaunched and we’re actually seeing updates.  Click here to get to the new site.  It’s an unbelievably nice site, too.  Lots of videos, a message board filled with sane people, a shop, and best of all blogs.  So far Drew Carey and executive producer Mike Richards have posted, so keep an eye out because they definitely seem like they are interested in keeping this up to date.  It’s the best place to get behind the scenes stuff for sure.  Want a preview of what to expect from the new season?  Here’s a video from the site.  I love the new turntable area.  Looks fantastic.  It’s amazing how much more room it looks like they have.

I watched yesterday for the first time in ages the set is amazing i like the home base. The contestant row looks cool and the showcase podiums are cool too they i am happy to see Rich Fields on tv again which is good because hes also the star of the show. But i have to say Drew is just not the best host of tpir he still sucks

"The Price Is RIght" wasn't Barker's show – he just THOUGHT it was since he was promoted to EP in 1986, and all of his antics reared their ugly heads!

And Rich Fields is a great announcer? Come on now! Every time I hear Rich say the word CAR, my ears just want to cringe! Johnny O and Rod Roddy Rich is not (as much as he tries!) "TPIR" should have kept Burton Richardson instead.

I was under the impression that there was only one place where Eggcrate-style displays were still manufactured, and that was the CBS Television City props department. I guess that might mean the remaining Eggrcates will stick around a while longer, as long as they can still make/find replacement parts…
