“The Cube” Tapes Celebrity Shows; Behind the Scenes Look
The internationally popular and successful game show The Cube apparently wrapped up its second series of taping. The hit ITV game show which essentially takes the popular classic game show Beat the Clock and puts it in The Matrix promises new games, new thrills, and a few celebrity shows this season. Two celebrity shows will air this series whose date is yet to be announced (unless I missed it. If so please correct me).
For our British friends and crafty American readers who can find it, the celebrities this series will be Dame Kelly Holmes who is an Olympic athlete, Ricky Hatton who is a professional boxer, Joe Swash who is a popular actor, and finally Kelly Osbourne who just about everyone knows. She filmed her episode yesterday and wrote via Twitter, “I just filmed the cube and it was the most fun I have
ever had filming a tv show it was amazing I can’t wait to do it again!!!!! I am not allowed to tell you how much money I won but I did way better then I thought I would it was sooooo much fun!.” The first series of the show managed to average over 5.5 million viewers and over a 26% share.
The thing about The Cube that has captivated audiences around the world is the mystery behind it. It’s the single most-impressive television show from a production standpoint I’ve ever seen. Hundreds of lights, tons of cameras, and the ominous Cube set it apart from anyone else. Portugal started their own version this year which you can see a bit of by clicking here. Interested in how the show works behind the scenes? Watch the video below. Look at that wall of cameras. That’s unbelievably impressive.
It doesn’t look like we’ll get a version here, but that’s fine. The nice thing about the Internet age is that the continent barrier between anything has been removed. If you’re crafty you can watch any show you want. Trust me we’ll be anxiously awaiting the new season of The Cube with Phillip Schofield.

I still can’t believe that instead of this, we get Minute to Win It. *sigh*.
I know. Disappointing.
I love the turntable runway to get into The Cube! Would love to see more of this show!
So the pilot CBS taped didn’t get a go-ahead? That’s extremely disappointing. Is there anyplace I can go directly to see old episodes of the British version?
Most, if not all of them, been uploaded on YouTube.
If you know what BitTorrent is, there’s a website with torrents of loads of British TV shows (including game shows). Happy Googling. :)
Well said. I hope it gets some kind of life in USA b/c Minute to Win It STINKS!
“The Celebrity Cube” was what I thought of when I was wondering how we’d mess it up here. Apparently they’re already taking care of that in the UK. ;)
Sure, MTWI is nice, but I’d MUCH rather have The Cube. So sad. TT_TT
Seems that quite a few of the commentators on this and other sites are quite ready and willing to knock anything with celebrities in it.
There’s no cause for a blanket criticism like that!
Celebrities can add to a show. And I ask you–where would “Password” and the various denominations of the “Pyramid” have been without ‘em?
And I cannot imagine these people knocking it when celebs come on to test their mettle on “Jeopardy!” For years, that show has had a certain cachet with the brighter celebs.
Granted, it can be taken too far. And some “celebs” have little better to do than to plug their latest project. Never mind if they have the mental or physical wherewithal for the game at hand, as long as they can get the plug going!
True, sometimes celebs can be a sign of desperation. You know: “The ratings haven’t gotten where we want them. Let’s bring on the celebrities!”. But their mere presence does not damn a gameshow to outer darkness–nor need it be that way!
I was at one of the celebrity recordings last week. If it’s as good on the TV as it was there, then you’ll love it. Some really gripping moments.
The (Celebrity) Cube, The X Factor and Harry Hill’s TV Burp (this might go over the head of many US viewers!) in one evening on one channel. I might die.
