The British Are Better Than Us: The Cube (Part 3)
Here’s part 3. Did I mention these are the best graphics for a game show I’ve ever seen?

I can see this making a lineup in the States, prob. on Fox; alternate name of "9 Lives" (but that may remind people of that GSN Cat Show), play for $2500, $5000, $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000 (maybe $125,000), and finale for $250,000. NO MARK THOMPSON, I BEG OF YOU!
Really love this show! I think it could work in the US…on ABC, or Fox.
IF they kept it to a half-hour…
IF they kept it to 1 night a week…
IF they don't muck it up with celebrities. It could be appointment television.
I'd keep the name "The Cube". It gives the cube a personality…makes it a foe to be vanquished.
The graphics are just a little over the top…but they work. The Matrix effect during actual play might be an issue, but it makes for great instant replays!
This is actually an hour show on ITV in the UK, it's not a 30minute program.
I said this in part 1 – $1,000/$5,000/$10,000/$25,000/$50,000/$100,000/$500,000
But the alternate name would probably be "The Box" or "Inside the Box"
there is rarely a 30 minute game show on television that is "successful" anymore – but so far this is one of the "British Are Better Than Us" that could actually be in America (even though Only Connect is a way better show than this)
I could see this done in the States (you can see it already on Youtube), and I like the name "The Cube," plus "Inside the Box" was already taken in Canada, remember?
I say give us both! *sigh* If only this was the 80s or 90s.
just thought of something, on the first stunt in this segment, wouldn't have been easier to side-step assuming that's allowed. I like this show, I can see Fox picking this up, but if it's on fox mark thompson will likely be involved.
Most people’s feet may be a lot easier to step on the line side-stepping… She got it right after failing twice, get on line and walk your normal pace. Stopping allowed you to get off-path.
I can see this falling in line with Millionaire and Weakest Link as the biggest British import to hit the States. Earlier I said it had Fox written all over it, many of you said ABC, that could be true too. If, indeed, it’s ABC, I see Mike Greenberg hosting this (they owe him for Duel). If it’s Fox, I like to see Steve Edwards from Good Day L.A. host it, making him Fox’s answer to Regis Philbin. But that’s just me.
I like your choice for ABC, Greenie is owed big time for Duel (that could have been a way better show). FOX on the other hand, I'll use your idea here and say that the host should be Mark L. Walberg (Sorry if the last name is misspelled). They really owe him–and us–for wasting countless ours of our lives for "The Moment of Truth" and "Tempation Island". Also on that note, the cube should be a deep-voiced Burton Richardson from Family Feud. If you remember his announcing from Russian Roulette, you know what I mean. I do like you ideas though.
I love this show! :D
There are a few things that make this show unbelievably awesome, that we all know too well will not be in place if this game were to come to the states:
1. the BEST thing about this game is the host. I don't even know who he is, but he's charming, not so self serving, genuinely appears to have an interest in the contestant's will to win, and most of all, has MINIMAL chit chat with the family. At first when I saw the family (or friends) in the audience I was just about to reach for the mouse to fast forward through 10 minutes of horribly uninteresting bs, but to my amazement, it was about 10 seconds, then right back to the game! I guess watching DOND has tainted me into dreading all family portions of game shows.. Love the host. Keeps the game moving and compelling.
2. The editing: BADASS. It's clearly "the gameshow of the future" as far as aesthetics, graphics, sound fx, and editing but it's done very cleanly. It's not at all done cheesy, as it is 100% guaranteed if Fox had its own version of this show the futuristic theme of the show would be waaaay over-the-top and campy.
3. The technology inside the cube… holy shit. I cannot begin to imagine how expensive that floor-display is, not to mention the multi-camera setup for those freeze-frame sequences.
I'd love to see a £250,000 challenge, I bet they'd make the suspense pretty awesome..
Wow this show is amazing i saw the whole ep i never got into a show so fast. It could work in America this could be the new Millionaire. I think Abc/cbs should pick this up i know they wouldn't muck up the format. John O'hurley should host this him and the host look similar. Keep the same money latter
Lobster asked about the host – he's Phillip Schofield, best known as a children's TV presenter for BBC during the '80's and '90's. He's since hosted several game shows, including the British versions of 'Test the Nation', 'Winning Lines', and 'I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!', which for some reason did better in the UK than its US counterpart. He also co-hosted a British version of FOX's 'Skating with Celebrities' (renamed 'Dancing on Ice' for its UK run).
UKGameShows.com has more information about many of the game shows featured in 'TBABTU'.
I think the perfect host for this show would be Neil Patrick Harris.
We need this show in America… I'm hooked, and I'm scouring the net for more episodes.
