“The $25,000/$100,000 Pyramid” Returns to GSN March 30th

The $100,000 Pyramid logoThe long national nightmare of Donny Osmond’s Pyramid is going to be staved off by the long-awaited return of two versions of Dick Clark’s Pyramid when GSN revamps the schedules a bit on March 30th.  First off, in a bit of an amusing change, Match Game PM will air at 9:30AM ET, replacing Card Sharks (Eubanks), weekdays.  Let’s see how long until the little old ladies get confused.

Probably the most exciting change comes after that.  Dick Clark’s The $25,000 Pyramid will air weekdays at 11:30AM ET, replacing the severely rerun abused Press Your Luck.  That’s not all, though.  1:00PM ET will see airings of The $100,000 Pyramid, replacing Card Sharks (Perry).  Talk about a great bunch of schedule changes there.  The $100,000 Pyramid is far-and-away my favorite game show ever, so I’m glad to see it come back.  An encore of The $100,000 Pyramid will air at 2:00AM ET, and an encore of The $25,000 Pyramid at 2:30AM ET.

Speaking of coming back, an old but new GSN favorite returns to the lineup at  3:00PM ET and 1:00AM ET, replacing To Tell The Truth and Wheel of Fortune, respectively: Hollywood Squares.  No word on what version just yet, but counting that it’s airing after the line-in-the-sand at 3:00PM ET and that the classic version essentially bombed before, it’s probably going to be the Tom Bergeron recent revival.

Late nights are also getting a change that’s going to make people partially made.  Family Feud (Dawson) will air at 3:00AM ET replacing What’s My Line?.  But if you stick it out to 3:30AM ET, you get an original Allen Ludden episode of Password as a treat instead of To Tell The Truth.

Weekends will also see a change.  Match Game will air at 9:00AM ET (replacing Card Sharks), Password Plus at 9:30AM ET (replacing Card Sharks), Super Password at 10:00AM ET (replacing Blockbusters), the Richard Dawson edition of Family Feud at 10:30AM ET replacing Child’s Play which I just never understood the enjoyment of, Whammy! takes the old Match Game weekend slot at 11:00AM ET, Chain Reaction takes the old Password Plus slot at 11:30AM ET, Let’s Make A Deal replaces the old Whammy! slot at 12:00PM ET, Hollywood Squares replaces Press Your Luck at 12:30PM ET, Lingo takes the old Let’s Make A Deal slot at 1:00PM ET, and Meredith Vieira’s edition of Millionaire replaces Chain Reaction at 2:30PM ET.  Dog Eat Dog takes over the 2:00AM ET hour on Saturdays, replacing To Tell The Truth.  Then don’t forget that all-new Newlywed Game airs at 6:00PM ET starting April 6th, as well as the new season of Catch 21 at 6:30PM ET.

There’s a lot to digest, we know.  That’s why after the break is a graphical breakdown of the new schedule.

    Special K -

With the way Barker has acted towards Dian Parkinson, Holly Hallstrom, Kathleen Bradley, Claudia Jordan, and Rod Roddy (not to mention his hatred of Zinman Furs of Camden, New Jersey, and foreign cars), do you actually THINK that he would let any of the “TPIR” shows before Rod’s death in 2003 air? The only possible eps to air are the ones after Rod’s passing in 2003, as they are all about him, and no one was there to butt heads with him at that time. I sure would hate to see the watered down version of the show compared to its heyday in the 70′s through 2000!

  • Josh says:

So would I. You’ll never see me recording Drew Carey’s TPIR; I would rather see the 1970′s/1980′s Price Is Right again instead but I don’t know if GSN can show those again or not. I’m sorry for the many posts here.

And, are they showing the color or black and white Password?

  • DeVares says:

To Special K: It’s not Fremantle that’s preventing TPIR from airing on GSN, you can blame that on Les Moonves and Bob Barker. I would also love to see Supermarket Sweep and Shop ‘Til You Drop (either as revivals or reruns of the Lifetime/Pax versions). And I didn’t think the JD Roberto version wasn’t too bad, although the set was too Sam’s Club-ish.

To DeNo1MatchGameFan: When Bob Barker became Executive Producer in 1988, he went mad crazy. I heard he never wanted Rod Roddy to become announcer after Johnny Olsen’s death, he wanted Gene Wood instead. The reason he resented Rod was because he was popular and thought that he might’ve succeeded him as host (which I think that, had he not died, he would’ve). In fact, he never came to see Rod in the hospital or went to his funeral.

To Josh: There’s no need to apologize, this is what this is for.

I have one complaint….The elimination of the B&W game shows, including “What’s My Line?”. It was a staple of the GSN lineup, and should remain on it forever. I’m sorry, but I like the show, and would hate to see a good piece of TV history disapeear into obscurity.

  • Propagandhi says:

Now, they just need to get rid of Kaaaaaaarn!!!!

  • DENo1MatchGameFan says:

    DeVares -

Actually Barker DID go to see Rod in the hospital, but when he did, Rod cringed the whole time he was there, as he couldn’t stand Barker. The reason being is that Barker fell out of favor with Rod when his agent went to him to make sure that he and the other models got the same rate of pay on the million dollar specials as they did on the first one, and when Barker didn’t abide by that, Rod was no longer seen on camera, and therefore on Barker’s ‘shit list’, along with Dian, Holly, Janice, Kathleen, and the others. I’ve had three people who worked on the show verify this info with me, and I find them to be honorable people to know. Rod died a bitter and angry man thanks to what Barker did to him.

  • Josh says:

I know how that can be. Somebody mentioned that Fremantle put TPIR on D.V.D.; I have that D.V.D., by the way. I’m saving up for the TPIR D.V.D. game and also for the PC/Mac version of it because I can actually imagine myself hosting TPIR.

I am so happy the Dick Clark version of Pyramid is coming back I’m glad to see more of Dawson’s Family Feud! I’m sad that Card Sharks is leaving. I really like that show. I hope it comes back in the future.

  • Tony says:

Don’t mind the changes, except for one:

No What’s My Line? Horrible news, as it’s one of the few shows worth watching late at night. I’m furious about it, but resigned to it—there has to be some place on GSN for the B&W shows that paved the way for a lot of the color nonsense still around. Surely, they can get rid of poker reruns for some B&W programming.

  • Cameleonwammy says:

The $100K could be 1985-1986 season, I’m putting my $$ there. And Password’s Back AGAIN!!!!! I will tape. Will miss PYL, and Perry’s CS is almost near the end. Oh well.

  • PlattsGSNFan says:

It’s great to see Dick Clark’s Pyramid coming back. I’m really stoked about that and look forward to catching a few whiffs of nostalgia. Also it’ll be nice to see the PM crew come back. I’ll miss PYL and enjoy the double Passwords [Plus and Super] on the weekend, and really will enjoy the Dawson’s FF, but there is one thing I really wished GSN would do with the weekday schedule. I wished they would remedy the Karn-age that is spread over the late afternoon/early evening schedule.

Now, let me say that I don’t mind Richard Karn. I think he’s great as Tim’s sidekick in Home Improvement, a fun host on Family Feud and the same on Bingo America. I just think we see TOO much of him. Look at the schedule, as-is…
    4:30pm – Richard Karn’s Family Feud
    5:30pm – Richard Karn’s Family Feud
6:30pm – Richard Karn’s Bingo America [until the Newlywed Game starts, which then BA will probably just be moved somewhere]
    8:00pm – Richard Karn’s Family Feud.

Anyone else think it’s too much Karn?
Especially how the 4:30 and 5:30 editions are during GSN Live. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

I think one of the GSN Live airings of Karn’s FF should go. Stick O’Hurley’s edition if you really wanted to keep FF in the slot. Hell, get Louie Anderson’s edition if you’re that desperate. Or even replace it with O’Hurley’s To Tell The Truth. Or bring back one of your originals – like Camouflage, That’s the Question or even a weekday airing of Russian Roulette. Anything but Karn’s Feud, please.

I don’t know who decides what to show, but my family and I are getting real close to tuning out for good! We got to like Trvia Trap, you take it off, we get to like all new Beat The Clock, youtake it off, we really lie Card Sharks, you take it off, we really like What’s my Line, Blockbusters, and Child’s Play and you take it off. Why? Whije at the same time you flood the channel with Match Game, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. We are about to quit watching GSN!Everytime we REALLY LIKE a game show it gets dropped for something we would really rather do WITHOUT!!! Can you put What’s My Line, Card Sharks, Child’s Play, and Blockbusters back on PLEASE!!!

    Sincerely, Rose Heard

Why in the world would a game show network show a reality program (Carnie unstapled)? That's like putting Deal or No Deal on the Food Network.

  • @palmercomm says:

Maybe GSN wants to lose its original demographic.
