I think you all may have your answer as to what is the future of daytime game shows with CBS. We’re hearing that people are being sent applications for The $1,000,000 Pyramid right now and its asking that the form is return as soon as possible, for reasons I assume involving wanting to tape unbelievably quick.
Obviously we can’t confirm it because CBS will want to actually break the news with someone a bit bigger than us, but from everything I’ve heard and now this, it looks like Pyramid will be the first daytime game show in a really long time. It’s extremely exciting news that we’ll keep you posted on constantly. This is one of the shows CBS was looking at replacing the now-canceled soap opera Guiding Light with. Other shows in the running are Let’s Make A Deal and The Dating Game.

Not to mention they wanna squeeze more freaking hours of Today as they wish to in their daily lineup. Yeesh!
Passions was the last new soap opera waaaaaaaaay back in 1999. P&G could be slowly getting out of the soap opera business although, IMHO, the last great soap from P&G is The Edge of Night.
I love the flute clock. I thought I was the only one. Thanks for that, Dontryl. You the man.
4 hours of Today is 2 hours too long. Bring back Concentration.
At the risk of setting Craig off again ;-)
From The Game Show Fix :
"CBS DECISION DELAYED 2 WEEKS: Wednesday was supposed to be D-Day for CBS’s decision on a replacement for The Guiding Light in September. However, insiders have told THE FIX that announcement is now expected to be held until the week of August 3. CBS executives have informed production companies they want to look at more pilots before making their choice."
I believe the only other pilots (that we knew about ) were LMAD and The Dating Game. While that fact that Pyramid is casting is a good sign…with less than 2 months until the presumed premiere date of Sept. 21, Embassy Row likely has no choice but to move forward, with or without a pick-up announcement, so they can hit the ground running if they DO get picked up.
Hopefully, it's a case of Pyramid being a go and CBS is waiting to see TDG pilot before deciding on the other green light.
But these are network executives…they're all a bit nuts! They could always decide to put repeats of Numb3rs or Craig Ferguson in that slot!
I'm really looking forward to see this coming to CBS this fall. Anyone know when/where you can get tickets to see it taped?
All I'm predicting is the $1,000,000 Pyramid will be on the CBS daytime schedule by a landslide, but I can say is keep your fingers crossed; because I would love to see Pyramid and Let's Make A Deal on CBS Daytime. No way I would not see The Dating Game on the schedule; not going to happen.
If/wen CBS does have Pyramid ready to go, http://www.cbs.com might be your best bet to get ticket info. As of right now, no official word yet.
I'm sure this goes without saying, but be sure to post here when the calls start coming! It might be an early sign of confidence from CBS :)
I highly doubt if The Dating Game will make the CBS schedule. If they were to possibly revive it, it would either end up on GSN or syndication (if it's the case of the latter, it will probably end up on the Fall 2010 roster).
I've seen a couple of episodes of Craig Ferguson. No offense to the guy, but I don't know how well his show would work in a 10a or 3p time slot. Yes, it's funny as hell, but the censors would have a field day with CBS if it were on so early…
Sorry Craiggers…I was just kidding about that…(kinda)!
Damn me for not putting a smiley face after that comment!
;-)
Don't worry about it Myke25. I just wanted to say that although I love Ferguson, I really don't think CBS would move him to daytime. He'd probably have to be watered down so that the housewife and retiree daytime crowd can tolerate him (without getting fined).
And, to make sure there's no hard feelings…. :-) (a smiley of my own)
Whew! For a moment I thought my namesake was getting downplayed like that.
And honestly, my namesake friend, how many housewives actually WATCH daytine TV these days now that most of them are probably working for a living(except those that are "unemployed")? I'll give you the retirees angle on that since those ads that appear on TPIR these days ARE catered to them.
There's an article elsewhere saying CBS chose the Wayne Brady hosted Lets Make A Deal over The $1,000,000 Pyramid. I'm pretty pissed about this since the crappy LMAD remake NBC tried a few years ago bombed so badly.

Well, I won't be watching LMAD. What's next for Pyramid, are there thinking about place the pyramid on network primetime or syndication?
Actually Dontryl, Pyramid fans need to support LMAD. If it bombs, CBS may well turn the time back over to affiliates and not try another game show. For Pyramid, or any other game show, to have a decent shot at landing on a network schedule, LMAD has to succeed. If LMAD is a hit, other networks may follow suit and Pyramid would, I think, have a good chance at getting on the air.
