“The $100,000 Pyramid” Gets Facebook Game This Summer

Game show fans already had enough problems concentrating on work due to Facebook. We’ve already got Family Feud, The Price is Right, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Deal or No Deal, 1 VS 100, and Fifth Grader among others I’m sure I’m forgetting.  You’ve got another reason to focus on the website.  The popular long running game show The $100,000 Pyramid will be getting a game this summer on the social networking platform.

iWin, who created the games for Family Feud and Deal or No Deal, are producing the new Pyramid application in cooperation with Sony Pictures.  The game will play similar to the classic show which is currently in development for a revival on TBS with host Andy Richter after being turned down twice by CBS.  Players compete in three opening categories, and scoring enough points lets them play the Winner’s Circle for up to $25,000.  Inviting your friends to play along and “Passing the Pyramid” lets players go for $100,000.

“Our lineup of Facebook games has continued to grow dramatically over the past year, and our partnership with Sony Pictures to bring such a well known TV game show as The $100,000 Pyramid to Facebook will further contribute to this success,” said Peter Negulescu, President of iWin, Inc. “iWin continues to engage millions of loyal game players on Facebook, and the addition of this new title from Sony further solidifies our position as the leading provider of branded social games.”

The only way I’ll ever play this is if the person giving me the clues isn’t a computer bot. There should be real players giving the clues to real players.

That’s the biggest reason I didn’t buy Pyramid for Wii.

    • George S. says:

Couldn’t have put it any better myself. That’s the problem with a lot of word association games is that you can’t play real time with other players a common problem with many FB game show games, except for TPiR and Millionaire.

    • sVybDy says:

Don’t expect much out of this, then. iWin’s existing Facebook games (Family Feud, Deal or No Deal and 1 vs. 100) show they have no commitment to and no vision for designing games for the Facebook platform.

    • J.C. says:

The only reason I didn’t get it is because it was based off of Donnymid. I played the 100K Pyramid PC game, and I actually thought it was clever how the computer gave you clues.

      • DeVares says:

I was disappointed when the one for the iPhone was based on the Osmond version. Hopefully, the Facebook version is based on the one everybody knows and love.

    • Yuri says:

YAH! And the only way I’ll ever play Madden on X-Box is if I can actually play against Ochocinco!

  • Dontryl Alexander says:

I like the CD-ROM edition of Pyramid better, than Ludia’s version. 2001 version I mean.

  • Scott says:

I think they should focus on bringing these classic game shows back to television, instead of just making games for them. Hopefully TBS/Peachtree picks it up Pyramid. As for the others, we need to get the networks to revive them. That’s my opinion.

  • Ben Cohen says:

Great. How about Hollywood Squares, High Rollers, and Press Your Luck getting Facebook games? Are those good ideas?

    ps: alex, you forgot Jeopardy.

    • Jeopardy has already been done!!!! It has been on Facebook for about over four months now!!!!!

      • J.C. says:

@Andrew: He meant Alex forgot to mention it, not that they should make a game of it.

@Ben: Those are all great ideas, so long as PYL is, again, not based off Ludia’s crap-tastic version.

        • bmhedgehog says:

@J.C.: at least that Ludia’s craptacular version is a billion times better than that god awful DVD home game with Todd Newton.

          • Brandon W. says:

The DVD was awful, too. That one had three rounds instead of two, and in the last round, the highest-scoring player spun first instead of last.

  • Artemis says:

After their incredibly successful exploit with the Millionaire facebook game, I really wish Ludia would take this one. Same goes for 1 vs. 100, and Family Feud, and Deal or No Deal. If they made Millionaire run so smoothly as a multiplayer game, I’d put total faith in them in making Pyramid an online co-op experience, rather than an A.I. game. I don’t think iWin’s capable of such a thing.

Maybe I just don’t like iWin’s style. Their games just don’t run fluidly. And the voiceovers, OH THE VOICEOVERS! “It’s one versus… … … … … eighty. four.” Words don’t do it justice.

  • HD says:

The only “internet” players games I’ve seen are long forgotten. WOF and Jeopardy are over on zone.com . I doubt anybody plays there anymore, since the launch of both on Facebook.

They ran pretty decent imho. Graphics could have been better imho

  • Chris says:

Alex, I just checked, the so-called ap for “5th Grader” is not the real deal. It’s just a McGuyver-rigged quiz that seems a bit spammy.

    • Phillip says:

I tried playing that one too, and found it horrible. I just found a different version that Alex probably meant that looks similar to real Facebook apps. When typing Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? into the search bar, the one that says “app” is the fake one and the one that says “game” is real.

  • Chris says:

Okay, NOW there is a real game on facebook for “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader. Just look for the version that has the actual logo, with the apple.

  • Rich says:

They should do The Joker’s Wild on Facebook and Tic Tac Dough as well in original form(from the 70′s and 80′s).

  • Matthew Brewer says:
