According to Broadcasting and Cable, I wouldn’t be counting on the syndicated version of “Deal or No Deal” to come in 2007. It has been placed on hold for what they are calling “network resistance and a host of other problems, including finding the right host.” The pilot was cancelled two different times, both with host Arsenio Hall, before he reportedly dropped out. “Don’t Forgot Your Toothbrush” former host Mark Curry was rumored to take it, but no talk has come around since. NBC stated they are afraid of a possible burn-out a la “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” if the show would air daily, as “Deal or No Deal” would usually air at least seven times a week at that point.

that sucks but i can sorta understand this. although look at Millionaire it’s doing great now in syndication and i think DOND could do the same. I’ve never hosted a gameshow but heck I think I could do a great job on hosting a daytime DOND version. I think that if NBC sticks with the once-twice a week version in primetime and has a syndication i just don’t see the burnout. IF it were on five nights a week in primetime then I could see the burnout.

Well the Eastern & Central viewers won’t see the first half hour of Deal on 1/10 as the president comes first on his speech on Iraq.

IMO, I don’t think a Syndie DoND is really necessary.

They said they were having trouble finding the right host. let me throw a name out there and feel free to agree or disagree: Eamonn Holmes

A syndie DoND is too soon..the show just turned a year old. Either you have a primetime show or daytime show. Don’t have both at the same time.

NBC has learned from the debacle with ABC and Millionaire. BRAVO TO THEM! :D
I don’t see burnout, now, happening with Deal since it will be on just once or twice a week for at least the next year and a half. Now, if we can only get 1v100 to twice a week… ;)

You know, as much as I understand where NBC is coming from - given their current short list of top-rated shows - wanting to keep the show exclusive to prime time.
However, I don’t think they are thinking long term. The DoND bubble will eventually burst and there is SO much more money to be made in syndication..
Unless… they sell repeats to GSN (a la Amazing Race).. just how close to 100 episodes is Howie?

imo there is no need…it would be too much for a syndie dond right now…the audience would grow tired of it…once its off primetime then they could do it…

I’d rather see 1 vs 100 as a daytime strip than DoND. Props to NBC for showing some restraint and patience. Twice-a week is plenty. Besides, I don’t see a scaled-down DoND as a “Wheel Killer,” which means a daytime DoND would likely be a noontime or early morning show at best. That’s a waste. I’d rather see NBC develop something new for daytime…or revive a classic like, say, $XXX,000 Pyramid.

Well, if it’s just “on hold” for the time being, I still hold out hope it will come eventually. It seems as if Network Primetime is really the Hotbed for new games right now, especially at Peacock, what with their restructuring and all, understandable.
