Syndicated Ratings News

Wow, rough news day today.  I was holding out for something, but there’s been literally no real news whatsoever today.  But we managed to find some ratings for the new season.  Some interesting figures here.  I was really concerned about Deal or No Deal after the first week and some relatively disappointing numbers, but it’s looking up.  It’s up to a 1.7, up 13 percent from last week.  Looking like we have a real hit here, and a deserved one.  Sadly no ratings for Trivial Pursuit yet, though.

In the returning shows categories, nothing was really off the chart.  Wheel of Fortune went up just three percent to a 6.6.  Jeopardy! was also up (two percent) to a  5.6.  Sadly the rest isn’t so good.  Who Wants to be a Millionaire? is down to a 2.5, down four percent.  It’s not alarming right now and I’m sure Disney ABC can live with that, but let’s hope it moves up.  You have to slightly wonder how many people were turned off by the show’s changes.  Not a lot to gauge any opinions off of yet, but that’ll come in a month or two.  Family Feud is flat at a 1.3.  Again, not too good, but the show’s so cheap that there’s no major issue.  Plus the show’s been on the air for, what, 10 years now?  It’s a lot; it’s just part of the natural decline.  Although I will say Feud hasn’t changed at all, beyond the top prize, in the entire time it’s been on.  A slight update somewhere would be nice.  It’s starting to show its age.

i wouldn’t be surprised if deal or no deal gets up to a 2 rating by November.

Family Feud hasn’t changed? It sure has…Especially in this version…It started out with 4 rounds (single, single, single, triple with one strike) with top score as the winner. Then they moved back to the 300 points is the winner with 4 rounds (single, single, double, triple, all with 3 strikes) with a sudden death faceoff if nobody makes it to 300 by the end of round 3. The show has gone through 3 hosts and 2 major set changes, with minor changes from year to year. I bet you know the rest, but to say the show has not changed is bull. The concept hasn’t, but it’s such a simple solid concept that it doesn’t need any changing.

if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but i think this verison of family feud has run it’s course. 10 years for any show is pretty good

I think Alex means money changes for Family Feud, but even then, the only one that happened was way back when Louie was still hosting, and that doubled the prize from $10K to $20K. You’d think, though, that after 32 years, they’d change the $5/point if anything.

And Rich, if you think Family Feud has run its course after 10 years, then what about Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and The Price is Right? They’re still going strong (Price even more so, after a host change)…

  • rich says:

Jeopardy, Wheel Of Fortune & Price is right are the only 3 game shows that could go on forever.

  • dropzone5 says:

And you’re saying Family Feud can’t? Think of it like this:

–The gameplay has remained virtually unchanged since the Dawson days of 1976. While some elements, like the Bullseye/Bankroll Round and the lollipop trees have come and gone, the crux of the game, the survey questions, is still there, and so is Fast Money.
–By the same token, Jeopardy!, Wheel, and Price are all still the same game. While you could argue it’s a little less so for Wheel, I see no reason why the same isn’t true for Price and (especially) Jeopardy!
–All 4 shows have gone through some major set changes, and two have gone through host changes in their current incarnations. Both are still going strong.
–Though J!, Wheel, and Price have aired continuously for the last 25+ years, Family Feud has also gone back 30 years, with various arrests in production. To say it hasn’t gone on forever is inaccurate, ’cause it’s been around just as long.

Oh, and might I add, Millionaire’s also been around for almost 10…why not it too? (Yeah, it could be because they changed something that wasn’t broke[n], but who can tell right now?)

The Feud is starting to show some age. I love the show dont get me wrong, but i think an overhall is needed. Its just too “programed”, very predictable. Plus the $20k jackpot should be raised, or some sort of Bullseye game should be reinstated so that we could see bigger jackpots.

As silly as it would sound, some of the suttle touches i miss like hearing the bell chime when someone got the number 1 answer &/or won the round. You only hear it in Fast Money now. And the show just seems to cant settle on a theme song.

Feud should go in the direction that Wheel, and Jep! and TPIR has gone. A sense of renewal, and this should be done soon especially now that were in its 10th season, and this Feud incarnation has never lasted this long before.

i would love to see family feud have a growing jackpot for fast money and 10 dollars a point for not reaching 200

  • Gene says:

Family feud they need to watch Bert family feud and copy from that.

Millionaire-The Magic died after the Regis Version ended. After adding the timer it made the show more unwatchable.

Deal or No deal probably will last 2 seasons tops i think that show magic is slowly dying

  • devares says:

I agree with Feud needing an overhaul. $20,000 was OK from season 3-9, but now they should bump it up to, at the least, $25,000. And $5 a point for not getting to 200 points have been around since the beginning. Why casn’t it be $10/point? As for Trivial Pursuit, I might be wrong about it. I’ve been watching it since it began, and it seems to have promise. I believe it will do well.

I also disagree with Gene. Deal will have a long, successful run and Millionaire is still going strong after almost 10 years.
