Sherri Shepherd in Talks to Host “The Newlywed Game”
Carnie Wilson being removed from The Newlywed Game one way or another may accidentally be the best thing that’s happened to the network in a very long time. Joe Adalian at Vulture, who first reported Carnie Wilson leaving the hit GSN game show, is now saying that Sherri Shepherd is in talks to take over when the show debuts its fourth season.
As we previous said around a week ago, when the show comes back, since Carnie is gone, the show will most likely move back to New York (which is great for all us East-coasters to be selfish for a moment and which Joe confirmed also). Sherri is the co-host of the popular daytime talk show The View on ABC which tapes in New York. We’ve also been told from sources to just not expect Bob Eubanks which is a bit of a bummer but whatever.
I don’t watch The Newlywed Game and who hosts it doesn’t concern me a huge amount, so I’m thinking solely from a business standpoint. The extra promotion GSN could get from landing Sherri would be great. I’ve never watched The View but from what I’ve heard she’s one of the more likable people on that show. Unlike Carnie she’s a popular comedienne who has a major outlet to promote the show and talk about it. She’s a high profile celebrity. It would be a huge publicity boost for them and it would be pretty nice, and it’s not exactly a big surprise that the network doesn’t have huge ratings and the more promotion it can get from something like this the better. We’ll see what happens.

This would be a GREAT replacement. Sherri is fun and funny and I have a feeling she’d take to this like a duck to water in no time.
Ditto. She’s great on The View, not to mention she’s funny. Good move for GSN if this is indeed true.
WOULD THAT MEAN THAT THE PRODUCTION OF THE SHOW MOVE BACK TO NEW YORK?
Only if you don’t type in caps.
Read the original article. Yes, they ARE moving back to NY.
This would be great. From what I’ve seen, she seems like a great fit (she’s nice and funny) and she would more than likely talk about the show on The View which would lead to more viewers for GSN.
So yeah… GSN, don’t mess this one up. :)
Which is why I say it’s a good move. They can use The View as leverage to boost the ratings.
Love to see the idea with Sherri’s wedding of a The View mates versus Sherri in a Newlywed Game Special. We know who would host (Bob Eubanks, naturally).
I have the same mindset as Alex; I don’t watch the Newlywed Game much, so I don’t care much who gets the job. Shepherd wouldn’t be a bad choice, since she’s on a popular show and GSN could gain needed promotion. Let’s just hope GSN doesn’t botch it and choose a boob like (gulp!) Bob Guiney or some other idiot.
Maybe she can ask “Does your husband think the earth is round, flat, or he just doesn’t think about it that much?”, or “Are your husbands parents younger or older than Christ? Trick question, nobody came before Christ!” :::rolls eyes::::
But, much like Alex, I’m not the target demo in either shows case, so, bring on Sherri I guess.
I see where you’re going with that, because she’s a devoted christian and what she said on The View last year.
I want Bob Eubanks host The Newlywed Game.
I don’t really see what point it would be to get more viewers to GSN, as there are hardly any classic game shows to see on there these days as it is! If Sherri DOES bring money, GSN needs to use it for more classics (and if they don’t work at night, at LEAST for the daytime schedule!) Airings of one season of “Pyramid”, and overplay of “Match Game ’74″ and “Card Sharks”, and “Family Feud” just doesn’t cut it these days!
I never really warmed up to Carnie Wilson. She’s bubbly and has a good sense of humor, but Bob Eubanks was unquestionably the gold standard for hosting that show. I guess I’ll always be hoping for a host who’s snarky, a rascal, and able to make married couples just a little bit uncomfortable, plus be able to moderate the show and explain the rules each round.
I wish they would return to the four-couples format of the show, but as long as ad dollars dictate how much time a show can last (22 minutes now vs. 25 in original run) I don’t expect that to happen.
They need to get a comedian to host the show, not a singer.
I dunno – Paul Rodriguez was a comedian, and the show tanked when he hosted it!
I was hoping Eubanks would come back or maybe Corbin Bernsen and he could have reprised his Arnie Becker character.
Hey that you very much to the article, it had been really and informative read! I’ll be again later on for confident.
