Edit: This information is brought to you by HollywoodJunket.com, who has a very nice entertainment site seeming to specialize in unscripted TV information like us. Even better, since the other lives in LA, she can make it to tapings and write about it. We’ll try to get as much syndie DoND info as possible.
As you can tell there will be very few posts this weekend because of hanging out with friends during the holiday weekend. It’s beautiful in Pittsburgh this weekend. This will probably be it really, as I have about 10 minutes before I’m gone.
I got a bit of news about the syndicated Deal or No Deal today. According to a blog post I read, the top prize is going to be $500,000, not the $250,000 initially planned. There are still 22 cases held by contestants, and only two models. No word on what the model’s positions are. The contestant selection is really different as well: it’s completely random. The selection is close to the process of the Deal Wheel, where each section the ball can land on corresponds to the case holder that gets to come down and play for the six figure top prize. The Banker is also said to be stingier but I’ll be the judge of that.
We’re still waiting to hear officially from someone who was at the show. If you went to a taping, please comment somewhere on the site or email me. If you would like to see a taping, click here. Also, be sure to look out for a new way to sign up for the show and have the producers look at you online. I have a good friend who helped with it and it’s an exciting new development for the show. We’ll keep you posted.

Oh Joy another Syndie show. Ugh i hate Syndie shows Deal or no Deal is going to turn into Millionaire Syndie Boring flat and dry it was fine in primetime when the show dies let it die instead of making a syndie version. And i would rather see it have the Uk or Australian set up if its going to use Regular Contestants to hold the case instead of models and two models how stupid

Unlike Gene, I like syndies. I’m thinking that this’ll be a step up from primetime for my tastes - if they do this right! :)

Well, if anyone has ever seen the Russian version, they have a set close to the American one, with contestants holding the cases behind little podiums. It looks really cool, if you ask me. I hope they do this right. It seems like they’re going closer to what the Aussie Deal has become, and it’s a pretty good format. I hope they have the case-holding contestants guessing for a cash prize. The primetime version has grown old on me, but this sounds promising.

Gene, the UK has the contestants holding, not models… :)

Gene, we get it, you hate syndie Millionaire. But to say you hate syndicated games is ridiculous. Perhaps you’d rather have more talk shows instead of games, like we saw in the mid-90? Personally, I have fairly high expectations for this version, despite the lower stakes. I like the idea of a faster pace, and maybe the contestant pool can provide friendly banter amongst one another.
Keep the gimmicks off the show, and I’ll watch. I think a lot of viewers turned off by the prime-time show’s antics might watch as well.

Gene is a HATER!!!!!
Be that as it may, I (along with most of us) remain undeterred. The variety of Syndie game shows we have today, is so refreshing to see. I also have a good feeling about DoND, along with Trivial Pursuit. And yes, I am still holding out hope that the producers of Merv Griffin’s Crosswords fixes things for season 2.
Oh, and Gene, I know this will tick you off but…..(ahem) MILLIONAIRE RULES!!! (hehe)

The problem with syndicated Millionaire is that it is so darn cheap. There hasn’t been a million dollar winner in the past 4 years! At this point, it should be called, “Who Wants To Be a $25,000aire,” since (per wwtbam.biz) the average contestant cannot even get to $25,000.
DOND in syndication has to be willing to give out some big money to be a success. If it is as cheap as Millionaire has turned out to be, then no one will watch.

I’m with everyone on this…..GENE’S A HATER!!!!! I rather see more game shows in syndication than the same old talk shows anyday, especially DoND. And, I’m with you, Intelligentfan777. I’m looking forward to Crosswords Season 2, DoND, and Trivial Pursuit. I think the producers of Crosswords will get it right this coming season, as in more money and better prizes (because, let’s be honest, who would want to win a trip to someplace we’ve never heard of? And $ 5,000? Bump it up to $10,000 and add $1000 to every day it’s not won.). And, Gene, I hate to piss you off, but Millionaire’s the………sorry, can’t swear, but you get the idea (hehe).

lafan,
If the average contestant on syndie Millionaire can’t get to $25,000, is that really the fault of the show?

I checked again. No one has won $1 million in over 5 years! It is the fault of the show, since the show is deliberating making the questions much harder than previously. C’mon — John Carpenter won by identifying “Laugh In” as the show on which Nixon appeared. Who hasn’t seen that “sock it to me” clip one hundred times? But Ogas gets a question about the names of the boats at the Boston Tea Party?! That’s literally 100x harder. It would not be a problem if the show were called, “Trivia Ladder.” But it is called, “Millionaire” — and it is a joke that no one can possibly get to $1 million. Would you call stiletto heel women’s shoes by the name of “Basketball Shoes?” The name needs to fit. And giving $1 million over 5 years ago makes the name of the show a complete joke.

Are you kidding ME, lafan?!
I disagree with you on all fronts! There is no problem with WWTBAM! The game was made tougher for a reason! And, I don’t know what show you’re watching! But, from what I see, at least half or more of the contestants DO get to the upper-tier, at least. Also, each season does have a good amount of six-figure winners, if not a million-dollar winner. There WILL be other million-dollars winners, trust me, the laws of probability just dictate it will happen! Overall, the show does a good job of finding contestants, and they are relatively intelligent, regardless of what the final outcome of their game may be.
Game-shows like this are not just about the top prize. The format, and what it takes to play and win is a major part of producing a great game show, which WWTBAM IS, and many others are!

Amen to that, Intelligentfan777. The same could probably be said about Deal or No Deal. In 3 years, they haven’t gave away $1 million, but from time to time, most contestants do go away with 6 figures (that is if they don’t get too greedy). And that’s not a bad name for a game show, lafan.

Agreed Intelligentfan…yes, the show is long overdue for a million dollar winner, but what makes the show great for me (like with the Regis version), is that the contestants are normal everyday people, and it’s very easy to play along with. At work, me and co-workers constantly play and try to answer along with the contestants, and sometimes even debate over why we think it’s one answer over another.
That right there is a sign of a good game show. The million dollar prize is secondary to me. And the show still earns good ratings, so they’re doing something right in New York. ;-)

Well, it seems we have had someone who SHOULD have been a millionaire, but wasn’t (Ogi).
How many people are going to get to the million, then actually have an idea, then risk $475,000, and then get it right?
Anyone wonder why no one has dropped from $500,000 to $25/32,000, but we’ve had a good amount of millionaires?
So maybe if you have a great idea, you should punch it because no one has lost on that question, but several have won.

Anyone possibly wonder why, on DOND, if the bench says no deal and you say deal, you have had a ZERO percent success rate?
So don’t take it.
