Rumor Control: Nick@Nite Starts New Game Show?

This one comes from Craigslist. They are looking for families (10 and older to compete) to play in a new game show. It takes place in their house with their family with prizes involved. The interesting part is that we’re seeing that the show is called Bet the House. We’ll try to find out more, because if this was announced somewhere before, I totally missed it.

They would be better off doing a big money/prizes revival of Double Dare, (something good this time-NOT DD 2000!…)

OR Finder’s Keepers, Think Fast, Make the Grade, Nick Arcade,Get the Picture and/or Legends of the Hidden Temple….or EVEN something NEW.

Not Figure It Out though, despite Summer Sander’s engagingly, generic presence.

Nick @ Nite usually follows TV Land for what they do, which is more stogie than anything Nick proper would do. I doubt they’ll ever do a “2000-ized” big money version of any of Nick’s GSs… too bad however, think at least a few could work

  • Marc Power says:

It would be better if Nick @ Nite did a TV trivia based show. for instance they could import Inside the Box from us canucks (check out the clip at http://www.classicgameshows.com if you’ve never seen)

  • Brandon says:

Interesting that the game will be played in people’s houses instead of in a studio setting…

BTW, Marc, a few years ago, TVLand did something a little similar called the “Ultimate Fan Challenge” or something. It was basically TV trivia, and the grand champion got to program an afternoon block of shows for a year. All shows came from TVLand’s vault.

In the states, TV/entertainment game shows haven’t done too well, but N@N/TVLand is the perfect venue for them.

    I beg to differ, Brandon.

You are forgetting about the biggest TV/Entertainment game show to ever exist, that being MTV’s Remote Control, which was wall-to-wall TV/Entertainment questions and lasted 3 years and about 900 episodes.

You really need a host who also knows his stuff about TV trivia. So, either Marc Summers or Ken Ober should be avialable to do this gig.

  • Tony DuMont says:

Why not Remote Control? It’s also owned by Viacom. It would be really cool if they kept the season 5 bonus round, with the videos and the Wheel of Jeopardy.

  • Brandon says:

I forgot all about “Remote Control”…good call, and good show. Definitely a fond memory for those in their 20s and 30s.

After watching “Inside the Box”, that seems like an excellent show, and I agree would work well on something like Nick at Nite or TV Land, especially TV land.

  • Chad says:

From nickatnite.com, it says that they will be asking questions about the family and the house. Correct asnwers win prizes, but you must risk one of your own posessions. Example: Betting your toaster to win a television. Or: Your hampster for a refrigerator.
