Rumor Control: New Trivial Pursuit Host?

Back in December we reported Mark L. Walberg was set to host Trivial Pursuit: America Plays. While true at the time, it looks like his contract with Fox may have gotten in the way of hosting this syndicated show coming September 22nd. There is a new name floating around. The Brady Bunch’s Christopher Knight (Peter Brady) may be your new host. He’s been in the spotlight lately after marrying model Adrienne Curry, with whom he was a contestant with on The Surreal Life. They currently have a reality show together on MTV called My Fair Brady. Anyways, enough Brady Bunch history for one post. I personally believe it, cause why actually have a game show hosted by a game show host. That’s ridiculous these days, huh? Although I can see Knight doing a fine job. However, we should be getting some more confirmation on this soon enough.

Christopher Knight definitely has the chops to do this; he has a great personality. I have no problem with this.

Much like the buzz when Drew Carey was hired for Price, I think the “experienced game show host” thing is silly. It’s not like there’s a game show hosting major in college; all of the hosts at some point got their first gig hosting a game show, and we don’t have a dozen of them on the air all of the time building the resumes of Bill Cullen or Bob Eubanks.

Whether or not Christopher Knight has the talent is one thing; the fact that he hasn’t done a game isn’t a big deal to me. Some guy named Sajak was a weathercaster, not a game show host, and that seemed to work out OK when he became a game guy.

I have no problem with the host. This show will be successful no matter who host it. That was funny, homerjay, game show major in college (if there was such a major, I would change my major, which is business administration). One more question, is the website up yet, because I want to see which station will pick the show up since I haven’t see any promos here.

Promos started feeding last week. We’ve not received our tape yet.

Confirmation that Mr. Walberg will not be the host. I auditioned a couple of weeks ago. While showing the promotional trailer for the show, they indicated that 1) Mr. Walberg will not be the host and 2) they do have somebody under serious consideration.

The trailer, which I know I saw somewhere online (probably here at buzzerblog), was pretty hokey. I would be a bit concerned whether the show will catch on. The gameplay was not all that engaging, although it is a lot closer to “Sale of the Century” buzzer rounds than the US version of “Temptation” ever did.

Kind of an interesting choice… Hope he doesn’t mention the Bunch or Adrienne every show (or isn’t introduced as “our host, TV’s Peter Brady…”). I know it’s a game and the format won’t probably be personality-driven, but I see no other reason to go with him except name recognition. So, I’m not sure what the producers are thinking. Unless they’re trying to “Catch a Game” like GSN and add Chris to Patrick Duffy, Corbin, and now Alfonso.

BTW, is he trying to set a record? He and Adrienne have MFB, he was on the recent Circus of the Stars thing IIRC, and didn’t he compete on Celbrity Family Feud recently?
