Rumor Control: “Let’s Make A Deal” Renewed?

Possibly good news for all us Let’s Make A Deal fans.  Our sister site, Game Show News Net, is reporting that a Facebook post from Deal host Wayne Brady says that the show will officially be returning for a second season.  The show currently airs in daytime along with companion The Price is Right and is the first daytime network game show in over a decade.  I’m trying to hunt down the post, but when I do I’ll post a link to it.  Also just be sure to check out CBS’s upfront news on Wednesday, as we should hear about it then.  We may also hear about the new daytime show joining the lineup (come on, Pyramid) as well as if we will get The Cube or not.

Well that's good news, what would be better news is that CBS picks up Pyramid and The Cube. We'll know Wednesday if either/or comes to fruition.

  • Andrew L. Budny says:

Right on DeVares, please CBS pick up The Cube and Pyramid!!!!!!!!! It would totally make my summer.

  • Dontryl Alexander says:

Just keep hope alive for Pyramid, The Cube and Password this year (if Necessary).

  • Myke25 says:

Because I LOVE playing amateur programmer…

Seeing as how Wayne Brady thinks LMAD is a much bigger time-drain than he had anticipated it being, if I'm CBS, I don't want to see him burn out any time soon. I'm thinking about cutting LMAD back to 30-minutes, so they could shoot 5 eps. in one day and Wayne can do some of the other stuff he wants to do. I'd pair it with The $XXX,000 Pyramid. Then the ATWT hour could go to the "View for Moms" crap-fest (Gotta keep the boss's wife busy!) or to the Emeril Cooking Thing, or whatever else they're looking at.

I sure hope the show IS getting renewed…it's getting better! :D

I guess the 2010-2011 CBS Daytime lineup will be:
    Let's Make a Deal (Season 2)
The Price is Right (Season 39 overall, Season 4 for Drew Carey hosting)
    The Young and the Restless
    The Bold and the Beautiful
AND IN PLACE OF THE CANCELLED AS THE WORLD TURNS:
    The new Pyramid (30 minutes)
The new Julie Chen talk show (30 minutes)

And I guess the next CBS soap to be cancelled in 2011 could be The Bold and the Beautiful. (Maybe at the same time NBC cancels its last soap on the daytime lineup "Days of Our Lives", but ABC's 3 soaps will stay on unless "One Life to Live" gets the pink slip).

  • Kevin $ says:

I wonder if CBS is actually looking at Wayne's comments. I really wonder. This is a really good idea though Myke25. Like I FULLY support this…

  • DeVares says:

I doubt if CBS will cancel The Bold & the Beautiful anytime soon seeing as it's one of the highest rated soap on daytime (second behind The Young & The Restless) and NBC isn't gonna cancel Days because of their rise in the ratings (#3 in daytime), so a fifth hour of Today is HIGHLY unlikely, and forget about ABC cancelling any of its soaps.

  • DeVares says:

I forgot about Password. That too.

  • BFern says:

I can't see them reviving The Pyramid… That illfated Donny Osmond version sucked… Dick Clark is a legend and no one can do it like him…

As for a replacement for World, I think an hour long talk show is our best bet…

  • BFern says:

Here are some of the most illfated game show revivals of all time:

    Match Game 1998
    Tom Bergeron's Hollywood Squares
    Double Dare 2000
To tell the truth 2000 with John OHurley
    Wild & Crazy Kids (2002)
    My Family's Got GUTS
Donny's Pyramid (as i mentioned above)
    Whammy! The All New PYL
    Let's Make a Deal (2009)

Yet out of thtem all, the only one that has been a perfect 10 is the current version of Family Feud, goin in2 its 12th season!!

  • Gene says:

if Wayne leaves i hope Jonathan takes over

  • HomerJay says:

And let's remember B&B makes a boatload of money in the overseas markets still. That, coupled with a declining-but-still-nice-relative-to-the-market position here in the US makes it likely to be safe for some time longer.

  • Wayne says:

and how is 6 seasons an ill fated revival? and with a 2nd season all signed and sealed, expecting delivery soon, how is LMAD 2009 ill fated?

seems we may have another FF mole in the bunch…

  • Adam says:

I have to say if I were a betting man(and i'm not) I would say the hour that is vacated by As the World Turns will be fiiled by two 1/2 hour game shows. First there are tons of 1/2 hour game shows out there and they have been proven that they can work on daytime television(not to mention primetime television). I don't think the new Julie Chen talk show is going to get a slot because basically there hasn't been that many succesful half hour talk shows in the past, most of the current syndicated talk shows on the air are currently an hour and I don't think even CBS is prepared to put another hour long talk show on the air, or course I could be wrong.

  • Adam says:

As for what shows I think would be in the hour: my picks are Pyramid and probably Password; if CBS was smart they would do a Password similar to what Password Plus/Super Password was back in those shows original runs; I think a Password show like that would definitely work on TV today. Although I guess we'll have to see tomorrow to see just what happens(although I have a weird feeling that they won't announce what replaces ATWT tomorrow because for the most part they'll be announcing the prime time shows that will be on next fall, although you never know about these things).

  • Jay says:

Other people have done it…and, lots of people don't blame Donny…it was the production staff that came under fire.

  • Jay says:

Agreed…I can't wait to see LMAD back for a 2nd season.

    With that said…

Hollywood Squares was ill fated? Umm….no. I don't if the six season show you were referring to was HS or not…but, a run that long can't be ill fated.

    MG…yes it was ill fated.
TTTT…umm…no…not ill fated. He did great on that show.
and WHAMMY??? That was a great show.

  • Owen says:

Maybe NBC could drop one hour of Today so ATWT fans could have their show. i would like to see password back on.

  • Owen says:

ABC owns its 3 soaps,Days and Y&R are owned by Sony and B&B is owned by Bell who also owns Y&R ,ATWT is owned by Procter & Gamble, P&G might be trying to get out of the soap opera game due to profitabilty at least we have Wayne and Drew to make our mornings comical

  • Jack says:

You forgot one other illfated game show, Card Sharks 2001. That is the worst of them all!!!!

  • PJA says:

As much as I love "Password", I still think it's too similar to "Pyramid" for them to work together. "Pyramid" needs something substantially different from it to make a suitable contrast. However, should CBS do so anyway, here are some ideas for the format.

Ditch the puzzle entirely and bring it back to the original format of the 62-67 and 71-74 versions of the show, but play for cash amounts instead of points. A giving player can play or pass. Each word gets a maximum of four clues: $500 for the first, $375 for the second, $250 for the third and $125 for the fourth. The first team to reach $2000 wins the game. To spice things up, bring in the "double" option ($1000 if the receiving player gets it with one clue) from the 1975 version but give each team only one chance to use it per game. If a player calls for a double and their partner misses it, the opposing team can "steal" it for the same amount. If they miss it too, the amount goes down to $250 and the word plays out as normal.

For the endgame, bring back the original lightning round (five words in sixty seconds) with the value of each word at $2000. The giver can't use opposites as clues here but they can go back to a word if they pass it. Throw in the betting word from 71-74. And that's it – a simple, cost effective interpretation that pays homage to the classic original we all know and love.

A couple more ideas. Every five words or so, don't show the home audience what the password is so they can play along too. And the production should show some kind of reference to the 71-74 version that ABC so stupidly erased, perhaps even using a remastered or rerecorded version of its electronic theme music.

    Any thoughts?

  • DeVares says:

Let me get this right, Bergeron's Hollywood Squares ill-fated? Really? Honestly, and I'm sure some of the Buzzerbloggers will agree with me when I say that a 6 year run isn't considered ill-fated. And the current version of Let's Make a Deal is just finishing its first season and is all but certain to be renewed for a second, so don't call it ill-fated just yet.
