I post this as rumor control, sadly, just because no official press release is out yet, but there are job postings around different entertainment sites looking for people to be involved in GSN Radio, GSN’s new radio/streaming audio venture. And sadly that’s all that’s known right now. It sounds interesting, but I’m a bit confused by all of this. The network, while it’s apparently doing pretty well, is in the middle of a major transition right now. I would think it would be better waiting for a radio network once the network’s in top shape. But hey, we’ll see how this one develops.

all depends on the execution, but I can’t see it being that big a hit, GSN itself appeals to only a select few, but then again, everyone’s got a channel on Sirius

Sounds interesting. Where can I find these so called job postings though? I am curious.

I’m curious if GSN Radio is contingent on the proposed merger between XM and Sirius. If the FCC rejects the merger, would it appear on both services, only one or none at all?
As Marc noted, a lot of this depends on the execution, as well as programming initiatives. If it’s just 24 hours of game playing, it could get dull real fast. An audio feed of GSN programming (similar to what the news channels do on XM and Sirius) would be worse!
Perhaps different kinds of game-related programming that fit the VERY broad definition of “game shows.” This could include…
– Interactive chat shows about the latest in the world of game, reality and casino shows
– Interview shows about game, reality and casino programming — perhaps someone like Steve Beverly could be recruited to host a one-hour weekly interview segment with a game show “legend”
– Live coverage of casino events such as WSoP, WPT and the like. Poker and blackjack tournaments could work on the radio.
– Interactive contests where listeners could win traditional radio prizes, or even opportunities to, say, play in a poker tournament or be a contestant on a TV game show.
– With the right sponsorship and funding, GSN Radio could put together a “big money” game show on the radio. While I certainly don’t expect $1,000,000 to be offered, a game with the potential of new cars and upper-five/lower-six figure cash payouts is a possibility.
There will be an issue with who to recruit to make GSN Radio a reality. Outside of the “name” hosts, pay isn’t that great for most satellite radio jobs (Note: I’ve worked in satellite radio as an on-air personality). I fear a great deal of the production crew and other decision-makers will be made up of recent college grads who are just getting their feet wet in the biz, let alone lack knowledge of the genre.

If we’re talking about what could be on GSN Radio, I’d like…
- Original episodes of OTR game shows (”You Bet Your Life”, “Truth or Consequences”, etc.)
- Audio tracks of classic and modern game shows on TV (”The Price is Right”, “Trivia Trap”, etc.)

James, I think you’ve got the right idea, no question, except for one thing: If GSN will have a big-money program, it’ll be on the air, not the airwaves. The MOST I can see them offering is, say a monthly contest for a seat in either a WPT tournament or on a new original.
One person I can actually see doing GSN Radio, I’d assume would have a good deal of game show knowledge, and is currently working as a radio personality on KRTH 101.1 in Southern California, would be Charlie Tuna.

ooOOooh! I would love to see them carried on XM, but at first I’ll bet they’ll only be carried thru a “Listen Here” link on their GSN web site. I would also like it to be a simulcast of the TV channel (that would make road trips so much fun!), but I don’t think that’s going to be what it is.
