Rumor Control: GSN Picks Up “Camouflage”?

Posted by Alex Davis On March - 24 - 2007

We can’t 100% confirm it just yet, but we’re hearing from people connected to GSN that “Camouflage” has been picked up. “Camouflage” was one of the shows announced for development during the Television Critics Associated event. From Buena Vista Productions, this fast paced word game makes contestants find hidden words from a word puzzle, but there are extra letters in it. For instance, if you are given BRAINCHUORIC and the clue is “Newsperson”, reading the puzzle left to right reveals the word “ANCHOR” when you say it. Even more, we’re hearing it is going to tape from the beginning of April to the end of May. Once more official information comes in we will tell you.

  1. Zach Said,

Wasn’t there an old game show with the same name that involved hidden objects in pictures? I think it was on in the sixty’s and Chuck Barris did a revival in 1980 before he left the country.

Hold up, I thought this was going to be based on the picture game.

  5. Dart Said,

More like an a la Now You See It.

From the example, it looks like the words are hidden in order, left to right, but extra letters are inserted before, after and between the letters in the answer to disguise it. So the example STORYSUMPLATE could get these clues:

    a. “The Donald”’s last name
    b. An illicit meeting between lovers
    c. Minestrone or gazpacho
    d. If you break it, you’re cheating
    e. An animal finds one to start a family

The answer to a. appears here: sToRysUMPlate – TRUMP. (I’ll leave the rest for you guys. :) )

Sounds like a good concept. It is somewhat like the front part of “That’s The Question”, but the full game itself will likely be different, otherwise they might as well as just bring TTQ back.

    Still, I’m optimistic about this.

  7. Mark "The Hobo" Watson Said,

I can’t imagine how game show fans had a passion for Camouflage.

Camouflage, the classic 1960s game show that had a cult following with ABC viewers, is coming back as a GSN original series – Chuck Barris resurrected the vintage half-hour show as a syndicated program in the 1980s; before that, Jerry Hamer executive produced the 1961 original.

Some things never changed, until now.

Dart’s got it, folks. Spot on – good clues.

In fact, Dart, we’re looking for writers, so if you’re LA based and need a gig for the next four months, apply!

My Only Comment on “Instant Recall”

Was it just me or was Instant Recall pretty tough?  If that’s what GSN thinks a tongue-in-cheek retro-style game show is, no wonder they are having so many problems.  It looks like a bad cable access show.  I feel bad…
