While we just discussed Millionaire giving thanks for a nice increase of ratings which is definitely needed this season, we give a large un-thanks to Fox in Rumor Control today. We can’t get it confirmed but we have close reliable sources telling us that Fox’s deal to bring the hit UK game show The Cube to America have fallen through. I have absolutely no idea what would cause it, but to put it lightly it sucks. This comes just a week or so after Fox announced a new game show, Our Little Genius, which will begin airing January 13th at 9:00PM ET in the post-American Idol time slot which is good news for them.
So what it’s starting to look like is the deal for The Cube, which would have gotten that slot, fell through and Fox placed another cheaper game show in its slot. The Cube has far higher production values than a simple quiz show like Our Little Genius. And unfortunately, in this economy, the cheaper and safer the better. While The Cube is popular in England we have no idea how it’ll do here and with the money it costs it’s a gamble. Our Little Genius is, frankly, a relative clone of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader which is popular and cheaper, so much safer. It really sucks, but there we have it. We’ll try to confirm this over the week; wish us luck.
The Cube’s ripoff, NBC’s Perfect 10, is getting closer to a debut our sources are telling us, though. We’re hearing it’s coming out in January. It was supposed to be out sometime sooner but they don’t have a host yet. We’re just waiting on that and we’ll find out all the info then. Obviously NBC isn’t going to confirm this either but we’re trying. Perfect 10, as we’re hearing it from those audition, is a game where people have to complete various tasks you may do at your home, like picking up coins or something, in 60 seconds inside the studio. Doing all the tasks in time wins the contestant $1,000,000.

If an American network really wanted to test the waters with The Cube, why not cut a deal to air the British episodes first and see what the ratings are? Then if it works, they have the option to take it to series in the States. If it doesn't, they haven't really lost a lot of money on the deal.

It would be better to bring an American host and contestants to The Cube set in England and tape a few shows and then air them here in America and see how the ratings does. I could see Abc picking this show up they haven't had a hit game show since Millionaire .
And for some reason i have a feeling Larry the Cable guy might end up hosting Our Little Genius

Did Fox actually announce that it picked up "The Cube"? I remember the production company making this announcement, but never Fox.

Man, I was really looking forward to seeing The Cube here in America, Hopefully another network will pick it up.

What made me hooked on "The Cube" were the slow motion camera effects, the simplicity of the set and the constant rotation of games to keep the lineup of episodes fresh.
I just don't want to see "Perfect 10" using what "The Cube" did to make it unique…"Can he pull that last corner of the sheet over the mattress?!? *slow motionnnnnnnnn*"

Hey wait a minute, can I persuade NBC to pick up the Cube and reject Perfect 10? If yes, how do I do that? This would be a great opportunity for NBC to really get back on the map.

Proof once again (along withOnly Connect) that the really sound and solid ideas come from overseas, and are usually condemned to stay there…
(My cerebral response. My emotional one follows…)
NOOOOOOOooooooooooooo…

I support Gene's idea. They already have the set built, why not just tape there? It would cost less than making a brand-new one.
If Perfect 10 isn't garbage, it may be a suitable replacement. I can't imagine the show being as aesthetic, though.

This is an outrage!
And people are already complaining about the idea of having the parents decide whether to stay or go on My Little Genius. If they go for it, and the kid fails, or if the parents stop, and it turns out the kid could have gotten the question right, how's that going to go over at the dinner table? Shows such as these and Wife Swap, with parents willing to exploit their children, are just reprehensible. That's what the families on Wife Swap or Trading Spouses have in common-the willingness to exploit their children to get on TV. Which is the lesser evil–the networks who feed us this rubbish, the public who gobble it up like swine, or the participants who have no idea what discretion is? And when they drag their children into such embarrassment, that is just shameful. Somebody call child services.
Anyway, please excuse my rant. The point is, nix My Little Genius and put on The Cube. They could even add the Krypton Factor, but PLEASE reinstate the Intelligence round, or Response, or even the Super Round. Only four rounds? Do they have to include every contestant's life story? Last time I checked there wasn't an Amusing Anecdote round. I know the 1990 junior version of Krypton Factor had only four rounds, but they didn't go into every contestant's personal detail.
Sorry if I keep going off on tangents, I just had to get it across. I hope you haven't gotten too agitated.

…
All I can say is that Perfect 10 better not be complete crap, because apparently some lady making her bed in 60 seconds is the closest thing we have.

I'm really upset about two things #1. Fox scrapping the Cube, which is much better than Perfect 10, and #2 NBC wanting Perfect 10 and not the Cube. Is there any way I could persaude NBC to pick up the Cube instead?

Not at all, my friend. It's just that Fox is so picky when it comes to what it wants to shove down our throats. I meam, come on! Is making a bed for big money any better than the Cube? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME FOIX???? SHEEESSSHHHH!!!!!

The Cube would be a good companion to Wipeout, I think. As long as ABC behaves itself and doesn't go overboard like CBS did with Power of 10 and Million Dollar Password, they should be fine.

Everyone was wondering how FOX could have managed to screw up The Cube. Well, here's your answer.

Remember, FOX is the network that cancelled The Rich List after one episode and though Moment of Truth and Hole in the Wall was quality television.

Here’s a question: Why didn’t Fox pick up The Cube? It’s a good show, and it would’ve gotten the ratings in the post-American Idol timeslot. Who’s running things at Fox?

At first I thought they would mess it up by airing "special celebrity episodes" but I guess I was wrong

Dude if you hate America so much, just move to the UK.
