Reviews of “20Q”, “The Money List”, and Big Saturday Night

We’ll have full reviews once I’m down for long enough to write about it, but you can write your reviews of 20Q, The Money List, and Big Saturday Night, all airing on GSN tonight.  As a very brief review, as I said before I really like The Money List a lot, 20Q ended up better than I expected, and Big Saturday Night ranged from rough to painful.

Now that's a stretch with Denis Miller. Well done sir.

I watched, well taped, The Money List as I did not want to rot my brain with 20Q. I'll come out and say this to the nay-sayers out there who thought this show was boring: Watching the clips that Alex posted on this site of the British version "Who Dares Wins", I had a great idea of what "The Money List" was going to be like. Some delay, some drag out, but all in the name of fun. I don't know what more you would want? At worst, Fred Roggin could have said. "Find out after this." (Do not use this idea GSN! I beg you!) Personally, any delays in the show should give you enough time to come up with answers of your own especially if you watched this shows with friends or family. I never watched a Will & Grace episode in my life. But guess what? They will have questions that you would have no answers for. I know people who are not sports fans but they could do "Daytona 500 champs" and guess what, if you're not a sports nut, then yeah, you'll have no idea but that's to be expected. Like Jeopardy!, no categories are picked based on a contestants area of expertise. The money list itself work just as great and I can't wait to see the team that wins $25,000. Great show, great host, hope for a season 2. My grade: A-

Oh, the BSN games, PASS! Fast-forwarded right past them. Ended taping over it with "The Money List" from Sunday and will completely overwrite it with next Sunday's show. BSN is a big waste of time: F- (Is there such a grade?)

Hey, Rob! Jim McKay hosted Make the Connection for ABC prior to Wide World of Sports.

Here is my opinion about GSN's Big Saturday Night

20Q: A lot better than I would have expected. I feared a bomb, and instead enjoyed a good adaptation of the classic car ride game. Good job.

Money List: Meet my expectations. Some earlier in this post comment about the pacing of the show, but that is how the show works best. You need those moments when you have to play it out a bit more to add tension and suspense. I like it.

Live air segments: The games were not that bad, but the other segments were by far the worst. Cut them all out and leave the games in. Nothing wrong with giving away more money if you have it and hopefully get more people to watch.

Overall, the two new GSN shows work out well and I hope for the best. As for Big Saturday Night, I would suggest shrinking it from 3 hours to 2 and just do the games.

Both shows were great, although BSNight (skits and everything) dragged that whole night. I found myself watching Kill Bill in-between breaks. Honestly, the Money List was fantastic (2 full games and the way it closed out was intriguing), and 20Q was too long–but its alright–it can be fit into a half hour.

Mike Adamle, Larry Csonka, Todd Christenson, basically any host of American Gladiators.

  • Pierre Kelly says:

WCW Saturday Night defined programming. Big Saturday Night, however, is the opposite. Who hired Ross The Intern? Get Ashley Tisdale to replace him. Eliminate the skits and make it more Playmania-like. The Money List picked up where "The RIch List" left off. But $50,000 the top prize in the bonus? Why not double it? Bingo America did that.

    @Julia12345:

I know you were joking, but GSN did make a show like that, called Burt Luddin's Love Buffet. Type that into YouTube and you can see a full episode. I missed most of BSN, but I did see 20Q and Money List outside of that structure. They dragged a bit, but were quite good otherwise.

  • DeVares says:

I like BSN. But are the skecth segments necessary? It was more like a cheesy version of Whose Line Is It Anyway? I like the games more than anything else. As for the game shows itself, 20Q was better than we all thought. The cocky (and i mean this in a good way) computer reminds me of the jukebox off the '80s game show Fandango. As for the Money List, I never saw it when it was on Fox, but I love it. Fred Roggin did a good job hosting it.

To MrQuiz: I can name a few:

    Kenny Mayne (Two Minute Drill)
Chris Berman (Basically any '80s game show on ESPN)
Dick Enberg (Baffle, Sports Challenge, 3 for the Money)
    Ahmad Rashad (Caesar's Challenge)
Stuart Scott (Teammates, Stump the Schwab)

  • Lisa Torres says:

I was very disapointend last summer when 20Q went off the air. I got a kick out of that MrQ.
