Return of the Living Dead: “Bid4Prizes”

Last one on our small marathon here.  It takes a lot to make me double take about how crappy a show is.  But I think we have a winner.  Introducing our final show, Bid4Prizes.  The female hosts who are showing as much cleavage as they can to bring in the young male viewers (all the frat guys love shopping game shows!) explain that you see a prize and you text them or enter online a bid for the prize.  The lowest unique bid wins.  So if we both bid 1 cent, 1 cent is canceled out and the next lowest bid wins.  The winner doesn’t have to pay the bid either.  So….you might as well just have them randomly pick numbers then.  Why not.  Behold the show if you dare.  I think I know what the lowest bid would have always been.  1 cent, because of the one person playing.

Cause of Death: The early-internet version of Uproar.com had a patent on the game “How Low Can You Go?” which was the exact same idea, lowest unique number wins a cash prize.

I posted a bunch of reasons on youtube why this was so bad, hosts are poor, game is a one-trick pony, hosts are clearly reading cue cards, it’s takes them way too long to explain the rules…….

  • KBGUY09 says:

Why did u put me through that hell? It’s like PlayMania’s last few months except no games, bad hosts, and no contestants! gah!

    WOW…PAINFUL!!!

Coming to you LIVE from the QVC Studios in West Chester, Pennsylvania… It’s QVC: The Game Show!!!

  • devares says:

lol, QVC:The Game Show. I can honestly say that QVC would kick itself had they came up with this concept. In fact, any station that would’ve picked this show up (had it been green-lit) should have it FCC license revoked and go dark. I just wish someone can just Men In Black us so we can forget this tragedy ever happened.

Home Shopping Network did a game show as it was first launching. It was called Home Shopping Game and hosted by Bob Goen.

  • devares says:

I remember that show, lostcluster. It was something like Temptation (not the gameplay, but the fact that viewers can buy stuff off the show). That show would’ve work today had it not been for Temptation.

  • Tim Tender says:

It you go to http://www.limbo.com, you can still play the game today. It’s just not an ‘on the air’ gameshow. They still do stuff like this.

I haven’t won, but it is free!

  • Mark says:

Is that Kyle from Real World: Chicago? Well, when a gameshow resorts to getting a Real World ex-housemate as a host, you know it’s bad, and desperate.

  • Jerry says:

This show is just plain sad, no network would ever pick this up. I wish mygamesfever was still on.

  • InTheBiz says:

This program is still around in some places. It feeds on the satellite Monday nights at 8pm after UFC Wired. What’s really sad is Jose Canseco was a guest on here!

  • LostCluster says:

Appears this show worked out its legal issues (as Uproar got sold to Universal who shut it down) and is back and running. Still, missing a lot of TV coverage.
