Report: “Baggage” Cleared for Syndication in 70% of the Country
It’s been a slow news day and an incredibly busy day, personally, for all of us. Luckily we found something interesting for you. According to Marc Berman and TV Media Insights, Sony Pictures Television’s Baggage looks to be syndicated full time starting Fall 2012. According to TVMI, the Jerry Springer-hosted dating show has been cleared in 70% of the country. Baggage began a syndication test run in January 2011 throughout ten markets, where it saw ratings hovering around 0.8 to 1.0. These are off-network reruns of the GSN version which has been silent for months.

Wow, clearly showing that GSN has put themselves in a hurt locker for programming. You’d have to wager they WON’T be able to run the reruns without causing confusion to the first run shows on the local stations. And it’s probably contractually not gonna happen either.
Another reason for GSN to get their head out of their ass and return to CLASSIC GAME SHOWS.

Goldhill is probably signed up with T-Mobile, so, no, he can’t hear you now.
Until GSN decides to take 2 steps backward with their programming decisions, we’ll unfortunately be stuck with the same programs and the same episodes that we have now.
I’ll tell you something right now, if today’s trashy talk shows are cancelled, these should be the kind of shows to replace them.
Complain about it all you want, but this is a big success for Goldhill and GSN. These shows have already been produced so any money they get back on them is profit. GSN hasn’t been able to do this with any other shows. This alone could keep Goldhill in control for a while. It is the only show that has been a hit for GSN since he took over and now it makes even more money.

With the exception of “Bzzz!”, hosted by Annie Wood, relationship shows have never really been my cup of tea. This includes legendary titles such as “The Dating Game” and “The Newlywed Game”.
Say what you will about “Baggage” and Jerry. But this transition to syndication can only mean one thing: Someone’s doing something right.
Anything Springer is associated with is trash, period. Awful show…each time I see it I cringe.

Look on the bright side. I mean this could be an opportunity for GSN. Ya know, they could make some $ and all and it could be popular and we could have a GSN 2.

Springer and Maury are the only two talk show debuters of the 90s still on the air. Regis’ (and Kelly’s show) debuted locally in 1983 and went national in 1988.
