Regis Philbin to Guest Host “Millionaire” in Spring 2010
Apparently that 10th anniversary special of Who Wants to be a Millionaire got former host Regis Philbin anxious to sit in the host’s chair and give away a million dollars again. Regis will be hosting the syndicated edition for one week in Spring 2010, substituting for regular host Meredith Vieira. Regis last sat in the seat this summer hosting an ABC revival. The ratings were decent but there’s still no word on a renewal for that. Regis announced this on LIVE! With Regis and Kelly this morning. In addition his producer Michael Gelman will be the Expert for that week’s Ask the Expert lifeline. He’ll be standing by on Skype waiting to help. No idea whatsoever how he’ll do but I’d be careful if I was a contestant. You can check out this announcement on Live!‘s website by clicking here. It goes live at 3:30PM ET. So that’s some pretty exciting news for Millionaire, eh? Seems like every week something new and different/exciting/interesting comes out about the show. Next week is definitely going to be exciting. Millionaire‘s Tournament of Ten kicks off and on September 20th one contestant will win $1,000,000; we guarantee it. There’s a trailer for it on Millionaire‘s website. It’s been so long since we’ve had a seven figure winner and I’m really looking forward to it. I think I’ve given up caring that it’s not a winner by answering all fifteen questions. Just drop the freaking confetti. We’ll have a lot on the Tournament, as well as our picks, in the next few days.
I hope that Regis gets the whole clock-management thing down before his taping. That was his main weakness in the ABC specials.
But I'd expect the ratings to spike while he's on.

Did you notice what else was on the Millionaire website? They're doing a "Dancing With The Stars" week- my guess is this'll run in early March just before DWTS starts it's spring run…
John Henson from Wipeout is going to host for a week, too. He talked about it on Twitter.
Now that's a week I'll watch. John Henson is severly underrated as a host or anything. He's also a great comedian, and an all around jam up guy.
I'd be afraid of letting John Henson host millionaire. I just don't think he'd take it seriously enough. But I do agree he is underrated as a comedian.
Gelman I think would do alright as a expert. I'm not saying he'll blow us all away but he should do okay.
and were only into Novemebr and that's 2 guest hosts confirmed already. yeesh! Once Meredith's contract runs out they've got to at least be thinking about a new hsot, Not because she's terrible (which isn't btw IMO) but she has so many other commitments.
Enough with the gimmicks! Just bring back the show we knew and loved 10 years ago. I can deal with the changes in the money tree, albeit quite odd they were, but the clock, the Experts, the Tournament of 10…the show is a shell of what it was when it debuted. Frankly, as a long time viewer, I am appalled by the amount of changes since Sony took over. If I like a show, I'm not going to like it because it keeps changing. I hate things that keep changing. I would never have bought New Coke and I don't buy this. I understand the need for the clock, but that doesn't mean I like it at all.
It is, however, nice to see Regis hosting again. Hopefully he can host again this coming Summer. Going to watch him host was awesome.

I thought it would've been kinda cool to have Meredith as the Expert if Regis was hosting. Not sure how great of an expert she'd be, but I still think that'd be fun.
It's absolutely wonderful to hear that Regis is getting back to host for another week again. Maybe ABC is using this as a test for another primetime special in the summer. :D
