Regis Philbin Guest Hosts “Millionaire” This Week; No Phone A Friend Lifeline

The original host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Regis Philbin, will return to host the syndicated daytime version this week only, starting November 30th.  Check your local listings; it’s going to be a fun week.  Also the Phone A Friend Lifeline will not be present this week.  This week of shows was recently taped, when the lifeline was removed.  So this week there will be no Phone A Friend.  Phone A Friend will then return until January before its permanent removal.  Confused?

Yeah, but with no Phone-a-Friend, there's gonna be something missing about this week. Oh well.

I always thought that after the Tournament of 10, they'd forever do away with the Phone-a-Friend lifeline. At least after this week, there's still gonna be a month left in the ol' lifeline. "sigh" Where did this show go wrong?

I've been looking forward to this! Can't wait to watch! There's nothing better than Regis and Millionaire together- television magic at its best!

Just because they did away with one lifeline? You have to understand, they don't want people to cheat by looking up the answer at home. It really defeats the purpose of the game.

This show is a ghost of its former self, in the best possible way I can say that.

It's because the shows that were taped with REGIS were originally supposed to air in 2010.
Somehow they got bumped to the end of November.
Regis was even confused himself on LIVE!

Monday's show had a "Balloon Boy" reference — an event that occured in mid-October.

That isn't exactly the only change to happen, even recently.

as T C said, these episodes were suppose to air in Jan-Feb. of 2010, but they were put in November…

    for sweeps, perhaps…?

What they need to do, but won't now, is add back another lifeline such as Time Bank, where they can tap into the accrued time for a specified amount of time one time only. That would help with the tougher questions, add excitement, and probably would not increase the winnings very much overall.

I'm still a fan, and I love Meredith! But I'd sure rather have a phone a friend than the so-called "expert," unless it's Ken Jennings or Bill Nye. And why do you consider it "cheating" if a friend finds it on the Internet. The questions have become so obscure, there is little danger of the show giving $1M to anyone most of the time, but I guess if they giveth they can taketh away. I will still watch!

I was thinking the exact same thing. The lifeline can be obtained by reaching the $25,000 level, and the contestant can use their banked time to give them a longer length of thinking time. And as usual, if there unused time on the question where the banked time lifeline is used, that is still added to the time bank for the million dollar question as well.
