Vas o No Vas is similar to a little game which is quite popular right now called “Deal or No Deal”. There are some small twists, the first of which is three qualifier questions. The fastest person in gets rung on a cell phone. This happens twice, to determine finalists. Since I don’t know Spanish, I won’t attempt to give the questions.
In the first qualifier, Fernando Mahaluf of Las Vegas was the winner. For qualifier #2, the winner was Ralph Gonzalez of New York City. The two gentlemen competed in a final round, where whomever got two questions right first plays for the big bucks. Fernando got the first two questions correct, giving the chance at a quarter million dollars…but first, a temptation (La Tentacion) in the form of a Ford truck. Fernando says “no vas” on the truck. (I guess if Fernando took the truck, Ralph would play. Instead, Fernando plays.)
After the models do their thing, it’s time for Fernando to pick a case. He chooses #12.
The rounds are similar to the NBC version–6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 for every round after the fifth. The layout of the board is similar to the NBC version but with lower stakes:
$0.01 // $0.25 // $1 // $5 // $10 // $25 // $50 // $75 // $100 // $200 // $300 // $400 // $500 // $1000 // $1250 // $2500 // $5000 // $7500 // $10,000 // $20,000 // $30,000 // $40,000 // $50,000 // $100,000 // $125,000 // $250,000
Game play results and super small vidgrabs from the show are under the cut.
Round 1
——-
( 2 ) $5
( 26 ) $2500
( 1 ) $1
( 25 ) $10,000
( 22 ) $30,000
Then someone came down from the stands in what I only assume is like the Aussie Megaguess.
( 3 ) $1000 (not a correct guess, apparently)
The bank offers are brought out in a separate suitcase by another model.
Offer 1: $2600. “No vas” on that offer.
Round 2
——-
( 4 ) $7500
( 5 ) $100,000
( 8 ) $50,000 (and the audience applauds at the 4th highest value being removed)
( 10 ) $50
( 11 ) $200
The vault opens, and the lady with the offer case comes out. But first, the “tentacion” truck is offered again! He says “no vas” to the truck. With that out of the way, it’s time for the cash offer.
Offer 2: $5200. “No vas” there as well.
Round 3
——-
( 19 ) $5000
( 15 ) $500
( 16 ) $75
( 18 ) $20,000
Offer 3: $14,400. “No vas!”
Round 4
——-
( 20 ) $0.25
( 24 ) $10
( 6 ) $100
Offer 4: $24,700. No vas! We continue.
Round 5
——-
( 9 ) $300
( 7 ) $400 There is a 50/50 chance Fernando has at least $40,000!
The truck is offered AGAIN! Unless that truck is loaded or there is money hidden in the glove box, the cash offer will be much more than the truck. He passes on the truck again, surprise surprise.
Offer 5: $39,000. No vas again. It’s one case per round from now on. 13, 14, 17, 21, and 23 remain.
Round 6
——-
( 17 ) $40,000 The big two still remain.
If the truck is offered again, I shall shoot my TV.
Offer 6: $45,300. No deal. We continue.
Round 7
——-
( 14 ) PENNY CASE! 50/50 shot at $125,000 or $250,000!
Offer 7: $75,100. NO DEAL!
Round 8
——-
( 23 ) $250,000. Ouch.
Here comes that damn truck again. For the fourth time, he passes on the truck. But can he pass up this offer with $25, $1250, and $125,000 on the board?
Offer 8: $37,900. Deal! $37,900 is Fernando’s!
Proveout
——–
( 21 ) $1250 Hypothetical overinflated offer: $70,000.
( 17 ) $125,000
His case 12 had only $25! Just like some foreign versions, out comes the giant prop check for $37,900!
Ignacia Banda of Smyrna, GA takes home the $5000 prize in the at-home game.
And now some imagery…

The truck offers were just really unnecessary. Once before the game starts and once in-game should be fine. Otherwise, not a bad showing at all. Can NBC hook us up with a “Banker’s Assistant” other than the gothy-looking girls we got on premiere week?

If those truck offers weren’t blatant product placement I don’t know what is.
One hell of an opening game - heck, does anyone know if these episodes are airing out of order? Because that one seems good enough that they might rush it to air first.
