Reader Mailbag: How Do I Mail CBS About Rich Fields?

Over the past few days my inbox has been overflowing with emails about the former Price is Right announcer Rich Fields.  I felt like I should probably address it.

If you’ve noticed BuzzerBlog running slowly the past day or two, it’s specifically regarding Rich Fields being let go from The Price is Right.  There is a large outcry of support of Rich Fields and anger that the former Price announcer was let go.  I wouldn’t be bringing this up if it was the typical Price group of crazy fans, but once you’re getting tens of thousands of the regular people, it’s hard to ignore.  Again, this is solely because of the tens of thousands of people asking us for it.

Just as a note, this isn’t about guest announcer J.D. Roberto.  A vast majority of messages aren’t against him or anything like that.  Nor is this directed at Fremantle.  I still think they are some of the best out there, bar none.  However, people have asked me where can they mail letters to in order to tell CBS they want Rich back.  Someone close to the show gave me the exact information.  It is…

Les Moonves
7800 Beverly Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90036

Could it work?  Who knows, but it doesn’t hurt to try.  We get record of where all the hits come from and what people search to visit us.  We’re getting close to 75,000 hits over this two day period, and over half of it is specifically about Rich Fields being fired.  This isn’t the typical crowd we get, either.  Well over a third of the people are unique visitors who have never been here before.  It’s flattering to us, to Rich, and does show a lot of people are angry.  You asked for it, and it can’t hurt.  Trust me, Rich is receiving the message and he’s extremely appreciative.

Folks, I have to be honest with you, this proposed petition, will NOT WORK! I repeat WILL NOT WORK! We all need to move on and realize but not necessarily accept that this is the way it’s going to be. Rich is not coming back. He wouldn’t come back right now if they begged him to. If his history with Fremantle has been what we’ve believed it to be, than he has much of a chance of coming back as Bob Barker has coming out of reitrement.

Which brings me to this: It’s been three years and there are still people who want Drew fired and have Bob come back. To those people: FORGET AND PLEASE MOVE ON! Bob is never coming back to host The Price is Right. NEVER! He’s retired, he’s moved on. The show will go on and will sink or swim with who ever is running it. These Drew sucks comments are getting old. Did you expect him to be another Bob Barker? You probably did and were let down because he wasn’t another Bob Barker. NO HOST and I mean NO HOST should ever imitate his/her predecessor. They need to make the show his/her own. Drew has done just that IMHO. If you still don’t like him, then quit watching it. This show will go on for more years than we can guess. Tune in three years from now and watch the show again and if you still don’t like it, tune in another three from that point and watch it again and so on and so forth.

This petition is not about Drew. I think Drew is doing fine. But he needs Rich, his co hort.
You don’t know that the petition wont work…. you don’t even sign your name. For all we know you are just a hater, or someone from the show trying to combat the negative press. Don’t listen to him people. There is power in numbers folks, make your opinion known, and sign the petition It only takes a minute and you can do it anonymously if you’d prefer. If you love Rich, sign the petition, and we may make something happen.

      Thank you

Er, what? There’s a zero percent chance that the petition will cause them to change back to Rich. It’s certainly possible that they will make that change based on other factors (ratings, letters, etc.), but internet petitions have virtually no credibility.

I saw him at his new job as a meteorologist in LA, and I thought he was a MUCH better weatherman than he was an announcer – I’m happy for Rich, and glad he got a job that better suits his talents! Let the new guy do his thing – Rich is happy where he is!

    • John Linker says:

Just becasue Rich does a great job at being a weather man, does not diminish what has been done unfairly to him at TPIR. He has said TPIR was his dream job, and he worked his whole life to get there. The majority of fans DO want him back and feel he is TPIR. Rich is great at everything he does, but our love for the show calls us to try adnget him back, as the show will suffer without him that is clear. We want Rich back… period.

I’m 100% sure that Rich would rather be at TPIR.. he loved it there. and it was NOT his choice to leave.

    • John says:

Agreed. Rich is such an amazing meteorologist; he should stick to that line of work. That’s the best solution for the majority of people involved, including the majority of fans.

  • James Jefferson says:

I run a small design studio and happily get to have TPIR on in the background every day I can. I love the show and think that Drew is great. TPIR is one of the few television shows I can stand to watch. It has emotional impact that is missing in many other shows. They seem like a sincere cast. A few days ago I saw they had a new announcer, now I see it is a permanent change. That’s too bad; while the new announcer is ok, there is something missing from the tone/timbre of his voice. it doesn’t seem to have the same impact that Rich Fields had. If I thought it would make a difference I would sign a petition asking for his return. Sometimes these things do make a difference, fan outcry has saved a few shows, esp. cable network shows. But rarely does it save a cast member change.

Still, I encourage everyone to write to the above CBS address if you really want him back, participation and debate like this is the cornerstone of a democracy!

Did not like Rich as the announcer at first. Hindsight being 20/20, the pairing of Rich and Bob was just wrong. Here was an passionate announcer just getting into his prime and a host that checked out two or three years prior. When Drew became host, it just seemed like everything suddenly clicked. Not only did Drew inject a new excitement into the show that had not been there for some time, Rich sounded like he belonged. In other words, Rich and Drew were an awesome pairing, key word being WERE. If Rich does get the opportunity to come back and he wants to come back then, of course, he will definitely be welcomed back by TPIR fans.

Admittedly, a petition drive is usually not worth it, but as James Jefferson said, “participation and debate like this is the cornerstone of a democracy”. If only the American public could see voting in that light, too.

  • Adrian Wyatt says:

Rich Fields best announcer on tv
I am puzzeled why they let him go
We have watched Price is Right since it first came on
Wife no longer wants to watch without Rich

  • Dave R says:

The show has a big void in it without Rich Fields. The show has lost some of it richness. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  • Steve O says:

Rich Fields did a fine job on the Price is Right….But I noticed that there seemed to be a little animosity between Drew and Rich, Drew kind of making fun of Rich’s style by repeating some of Rich’s phrases in mock…Now I dont know if this was part of the problem or what….
but maybe Rich will do the weather for awhile, and get on ANOTHER show,…possibly HOSTING it himself! Wouldnt that be a hoot?!!!
