Ratings Updated: “Deal or No Deal” Finally Achieves 2.0 Rating

November on Daytime Deal or No DealDeal or No Deal finally passed the 2.0 rating mark during the week of January 18th. It’s up 5% from the previous week. Daytime Deal has been a very interesting story. In the beginning, ratings were a bit scary, but they’ve been going up (or stagnant) every week since. Again, we published a bit ago that Deal or No Deal is currently under negotiations to come back for a new season, and I can’t see how it won’t be happening. It’s the top rated new syndicated show. We’ve been talking about how FOX’s strategy for the syndicated Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? so far has been, “People say Deal sucks; they took out everything good; watch us.” But last Sunday’s episode only got a 2.0 rating. Daytime Deal and primetime advertised Fifth Grader, not on a throw-away night, are getting the same ratings. Not against football either. I know Fifth Grader was on at 7:00PM ET on Sunday, but it’s far from a dead slot, and the show supposedly has a fan base according to producers. It’s going to be a fun Fall 2009 syndicated season.

The other game shows are all down except for Family Feud, still one of my favorites on the air. The long running game show hosted by John O’Hurley, entering its 11th season in September, gained 7% to a 1.5. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! were down to a 7.7 and a 6.3, respectively, both those are both ratings broadcast networks would kill for today. You almost have to wonder how hard networks have pounded on the doors of Harry Friedman (executive producer of both) to have a broadcast counterpart stunt. Who Wants to be a Millionaire? is down to a 2.6, down 4% from last week. I don’t know about anyone else, and I hate being “this person”, but I’m just about ready for a million dollar winner. It’s been about six seasons since the last one. It seems basically impossible to win at this point which is a bit discouraging. Trivial Pursuit just can’t cut a break and went back down to its old friend, the .6 rating. But hey, it’s got a nice set at least!

It’s nice to see Daytime Deal hit the big “2.0″. As big as this show is, it deserves it. As for a Season 2, it’s going to happen because how can it not with ratings like those? Daytime 5th Grader will likely not have that kind of success, but if it can get at least a 1.0, it’ll be fine. Millionaire hasn’t had a winner since Season 2, so it’s due for one. And Trivial Pursuit needs a hug, struggling to even get at least a respectable 1.0.

I think its just time for someone to pull the plug on Trivial Pursuit. I’ve watched it once or twice and I wasn’t really pleased with it. What happened to TPiR? Has it fallen off a cliff yet. I’ve only watched a handful of episodes since Drew took over.

Hey, look at the bright side! Wheel and Jeopardy are renewed up to 2012. I just hope Deal and Price do the same thing.

Man… Trivial Pursuit is such a good show. Looks like it wont be coming back next season.

Anyways iirc, Drew signed a 5 year deal to host the price is right so unless they pull the plug on it (which I’m pretty sure they wont) it will be on all the way to 2012 (and hopefully for more years after that).

    Hurray!
Let’s see if someone can actually try THE JENNINGS CHALLENGE!!11!1one!!1
By “The Jennings Challenge”, I mean either have a 20+ game streak that stretches between two seasons or win $1million+.

He did. If he’s still disliked by then, they might switch him out with someone else. As far as replacements for Drew go, I wouldn’t be surprised if Todd Newton got the nod. He sounds like he would fit pretty well.

“Millionaire hasn’t had a winner since Season 2, so it’s due for one.”
Counting Super Millionaire, there hasn’t been a $1million winner since Bob-O in 2004. Yeah, it’s due for one.
Wanna bet if Primetime Millionaire happens in August, that’ll be the next $1mil winner?

Part of the problem with Millionaire is the casting… from what I’ve seen, mostly female, and “personality” seems to be a big plus. I’m definitely not saying that women CAN’T get to the million dollar level as often as men, it’s just a matter of being more risk-averse when big $$$ is on the board, especially past the $100,000 question, doubly so with slightly harder questions and contestants who may more personable but not quite as trivia-savvy. Bring back the phone-in qualfication and the fastest-finger round, you’ll have a million-dollar winner pretty quickly if you’re running 5 shows a week :)

I would watch Trivial Pursuit but here it’s on at the great timeslot of…4:30 AM. Yeah, sorry.

-That’s great for DoND! I only saw the premiere episode and now I wish I’d be watching it more now but GSN Jeopardy keeps taking me away. lol
-Well one of the biggest problems with Trivial Pursuit is that it’s not available in more markets. If it was, then we’d really be seeing the full potential of this show. I really wish I had this show but sadly I don’t. It’s just unfair IMO but that’s television nothing can be.
-Wheel and Jeopardy continue to impress as usual. That’s good.
-TPIR is just a dark cloud in my world now. Who cares.
-5th Grader I’m actually going to make time to see when it begins the Syndicated run.
-Millionaire I want to watch but I keep forgetting to change the channel during Press Your Luck. *makes mental note*

To Devon: The reason why Trivial Pursuit isn’t in every market is because it was sold mainly to My Network TV affiliates (if you have Dish Network, it airs on channel 238, which is WWOR @ 1:00). And here’s some friendly advice, watch one and TiVo the other (that is if you have TiVo or any other form of DVR).
